All I want is turkey and for Thursday to pass uneventfully. Please please please let that happen lol

I'm old. NPH is always Doogie to me.

Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet I’m ready for it to be over 😑

I love the holiday itself but this year the stress of blending the stuffy in-laws with my loud and laid back fam is already driving me bonkers

I need a big hug...and some eggnog

I wonder which of us has it worse. My family are the stuffy ones, but I get to spend my Thanksgiving with the loud in-laws. They're good people, but also stressful. After a couple hours I always need to retreat and regroup.

Happy Thanksgiving - I hope you get your hug and your nog!

I don't blame you! I grew up with at least part of my cousins around that on Thanksgiving. My mom had 8 brothers and sisters, and at least 2 families would be over. There was always the neighborhood football game and plenty of other things to do while the adults cooked and talked. After, the adults always played Monopoly while we were in the living room watching tv or playing our own games.

I miss those days!

Yeah growing up, Thanksgiving was always a big family affair, uncles and aunts and cousins over. And since we lived in Cali (close to where you are BFG 😋) it was usually warm and sunny and we played outside or played games inside and it was just jovial and fun.

Since my parents and sister and I all moved out to the Midwest it’s gotten a lot smaller and much more quiet than days gone by. I’m usually the one trying to initiate a family game or activity and mixing drinks for everyone, trying to create more of those fun precious memories with the little ones - especially since I’m very close with my niece, my parents swear she is my clone in every way. ♥️

The in-laws idea of fun and cutting loose is playing a round of Pitch or Hearts with a deck of cards and that’s it

I have come to the conclusion that I need to just keep making NEW holiday traditions. As time passes, new people enter our lives, others go away...and, we're not at the children's table anymore!

Fun fact: my former MIL hated me because she didn't pick me out for her darling "dolly dimples" (yeah, that's what she called him  ) ... think My Big Fat Greek Wedding... I was the one who wasn't Greek and I am Baptist on top of that! After our first holiday in Chicago, I'd leave the table and go sit with my kids where it was more fun. I did get to learn a lot of Greek recipes with my FIL before he passed. I would hang in the kitchen while he cooked because he wasn't crabby or snobby.

My sister and her family went to NYC and then Philly for Thanksgiving.
I get to have lunch with mom and then go to work.

Some how, this doesn't seem fair....

I hope you all have a wonderful day with family and friends! I'm not looking forward to the snow moving in and I hope I can make it to my mom's 4 hours away. For those not in the US hope your week is going well! Hugs and kisses!!

I actually learned pitch one Thanksgiving. Fun game. I go to Thanksgivings tomorrow night. My sister in law let me invite a co worker who just joined our company. She just moved to Boston from school in Western Massachusetts and is from China. It will make it interesting. Better than sitting in her apartment over the long holiday.

That's really nice of you and your family.
Once we left Maryland (where my family was) to Fort Stewart, GA, we invited single soldiers to holidays. That tradition continued out here in SoCal, with the addition of Corpsman or Marine, there's both an Army base and Marine Base here.

That’s awesome.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I wish I had brought my coloring book because I'm bored. I've really been enjoying "City Scapes" by Crayola.

Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving!

I am already turning to the Christmas holiday stuff - t-day was so late this year, there is less time than usual to Dec 25!

Speaking of Christmas --- check out the link below for a Lit Secret Santa.
I hope you all decide to play along. It will be fun! :D

One dozen strings of lights on the Japanese Maple (check). Boughs on the balcony (check), Candles in all of the street visible windows (check). Buying Christmas tree, Wreath and Kissing ball (to do).

*raises my hand*

What’s a kissing ball?

At least around Boston it's a ball (about nine inches in diameter) covered in greens and decorated with a few small ornaments and ribbons (red, and sometimes gold). We hang ours in our front hall (which is nearly room size).

They've been around here for about 10 years. I think they exist because mistletoe is mostly not done any more and was too small to be visible.

When we get ours I will try to remember to post.
