Thanks. I didn't know about the HTML codes, I'll make use of them.

But does the site software automatically translate Word docs? I thought it only worked for .txt files.

Okay, I take that back. I see now that the suggestion is to basically convert it to HTML myself. I'm a web developer, so that doesn't scare me in the least... except that I'd be afraid of making mistakes. Without being able to preview it in situ, in the page, I'd be leery. Maybe that's just the programmer side of me, that wants to unit test everything before I release it.

Still, my own issues aside, I think properly converting formatting to HTML is beyond most people. They're stuck with the RTF or MSWord submission.

The question only becomes... does the site software automatically translate Word documents?

you should be able to preview it before you submit it to make sure your codes worked. i don't use them, so i can't tell you first hand, but i believe you can

As Weird Harold said in Testing Story Formatting you can check it on your own machine before submitting, by using the code he gives and replacing the triple asterisk by your own text.

Furthermore, as meg1 says, when you submit the story as text there is a preview option.

I have been around here now for some seven years (as one or other of my instantiations) and I have never heard of anyone complaining that their MSWord had been mis-converted, so I assume the answer is "yes". Human translation would be error-prone and , worse from the site owners' point of view, time consuming and therefore expensive. The delay in posting MSWord submissions I assume is because they will have to be fed through the translator program.

Not to mention read if there is any doubt as to the ages of the characters in said story, or the staff feels like reading it. Not to mention thre may be 2000 stories posted ahead of your one, they go through them in order posted, not your own personal wishes.
