At social gatherings, I have had people ask me (or my wife) what I am drinking. Coke. "Coke and what??" Coke and ice. I am extroverted and "weird" enough without the booze. Plus, I don't like the feeling of losing some control.

Well since my hubby is Dionysis, we do imbibe in moderation. As for beer I love his homebrews, especially his stouts,but only in tiny amounts. I can drink large(2-3 goblets) amounts of his pagan black braggot and mead. We know a lot of Maryland wine makers so we do have a decent collection of local Reds and a few Whites. I adore Merlot but with seafood I prefer Vidal Blanc.
Mixed drinks bring back unsavory and unclear memories of college-hhmmm I think almond joys were most of my sophomore year, and I think I remember drinking wine coolers most of my junior year. I have never ordered anything but 66 or Sapporo when eating out in our fav ethnic spots, and once again I love to taste but don't drink much...Okay the truth is I can down warm sake like a sumo wrestler if I am chowing on spicy tuna hand rolls.

I love a good Merlot or Seraz while in the jacuzi. But when out, I love Mexican beer, Dos Equi, Corona, or other imports. Once in a while, I must have a Marguerita, with salt, on rocks.

First and fore most Bud sucks ass.
In my military days we drank everything and anything available. Had a real nasty time with some real cheap german wine, think it was bowen wine, uggggg, throwing up purple red stuff.
I make beer, so my stuff is good, a decent micro or import is also good.
A fine red or white is good. Merlot or a good robust cab is devine.
Still my all time fav, day or night, summer or winter is a T&T. ummmmmmmmmmmmm good

Looks like Diet Coke is pulling into the lead as the choice of DD's everywhere. Make mine caffeine free, too. If it is a special occasion, maybe I'll have some white wine. Or a beer, no more than a couple each year.

I have much more fun staying sober and watching all the drunks. Especially at work functions.

There's a really great tasting Korean peach champagne called Peach Oscar. Tastes great but sneaks up on you, and you'll have a splitting headache the morning after. I haven't had any in years because it's not available in the US.

Now it's bourbon on the rocks or cheap beer.

My choice is a good red but never more then two glasses. I have kept to that rule ever since I got drunk in Greek town on that wonderful little clear stuff and woke up one day later in Ann Arbor. To this day I dont remember how I got there or who the guy was that I woke up next to. Suffice to say the little army of trolls with knives that were attacking inside of my head was something I never forgot. Now I leave the hard stuff alone except for in bed. Oh did I mention the dancing I did was the toast of the street. AAHHHHHHHhh

Beer - Greene's on Sat. Nights I'll have a pint of Honey Brown.

Wine - White Zinfandel with chicken, fish and to relax. Merlot for sensual occasions (I like the image of red wine dripping down my body on to the whit sheets waiting for my partner to lick it off me), and champange (Korbell) for occasions.

Mixed drinks - Rum and Diet coke to be discreet. A Cosmo for glam moments, Ameretto and OJ or white russians at the bar!

Hey Merlin, I love the blues. We don't really have too many authentic blues bars here in SA. Jazz is a kinda substitute - there are so many different and interesting variations of African Jazz here. But the little pub - fuck man, it's a dive *laughs* but I love it. I know some people who refuse to go there because they say it's "dirty". And here I am saying I love it - so what does that say about me *shrug*.

But Merlin, I am waiting for a lil' blues bar to open up close by.

Let's see...in high school it was Southern Comfort straight up or possibly mixed with Mountain Dew. Oh, and LOTS of MGD.

Now, I go for those sweet mixed drinks. Sour Apple Schnapps mixed with Sprite (tastes like a Jolly Rancher), actually any "berry" schnapps mixed with sprite or Mt. Dew is good, Strawberry Shortcake (strawberry flavoring and rum mixed in a blender with ice..yummy), Pina Coladas, Mudslides, wine coolers...ok peeps, these are drinks I LIKE. I rarely ever drink.

My sister says that Sour Apple schnapps and Butterscotch schnapps mixed tastes like a carmel apple, but I couldn't get it past my nose to find out. Someone PLEASE try it for me...I'm a chicken shit now!!!

I used to be a Jim Beam drinker... then my BF ditched me and I got REALLY pissed, and hardly touch the stuff now..

These days its Champagne for me. Not much a fan of red wines, but it is tollerable in small doses.

No-one has mentioned shooters or shots or whatever you call them wherever you are.
I especially like to drink Slippery Nipples - Opal Nera with a Creme liquour float.. mmmmm (at least thats what I thinks in em!)

Feel free to add me to the DD list with a diet Coke. I rarely drink. For the most part I hate the taste of most alcoholic beverages.

However when I'm at the bar and I'm not driving, I can down 'Vodka, Lime and 7s' in record speed. Has anyone else ever tried 'Mike's Hard Lemonade', either the cranberry or the lemon. Tasty things but they sneak up on you. Haven't had one in a long time.

I detest beers and wines, even champagne. Just cannot seem to acquire the taste for them. However last week when my best friend and I went to celebrate the completion of his med exams, I ordered a Molson Canadian, simply because I love Joe! Damn, I LOVE that commercial!!! I ended up only drinking half of the pint but at least I felt patriotic.

Sammyjo, you & I are alike in so many ways I am seeing......

I was a high school alchy and did the Southern Comfort straight. Brought it with me in tupperware cups (the ones with a lid) in my backpack. It was breakfast. Good thing no one important ever caught on - I went to the same HS my dad teaches at.

In college I became a high & mighty "Christian" in a ...cult... so didn't touch the stuff. After I left the cult I became a rebel with a cause to try all things unholy. Mostly did long island iced teas and bacardi light & coke. Many nights I don't remember how Sheila (my best drinking bud) & I got home or who was next to me on her couch. When I was in a funk we would buy a bunch of liquer and mix it all making our own ungodly drinks. Play cards and get so trashed we didn't see the light of the next day. Thank god I never caught anything.

Now, I am a moderate drinker. I can't stand the hard stuff anymore. My tummy won't tolerate it. If I have more than 2 drinks at any given occasion hubbie calls me a lush.
But he gets the benefits of my flirting and brazen hussiness.

I like the sweet stuff.... Mudslides, Pina coladas, strawberry or peach daquiris...

Also a good white zin. I have really gotten into the flavored zin's: peach, strawberry. I enjoy wine coolers, and every so often a good glass or two of champagne.

One word of advice: stay away from blueberry champagne - if made me hurl!!!

I have found that a good drink or two in good company (or while cybering.....) can be just what the doctor ordered
