Here's an unnecessary example: Grafittis and gang wars exploded and became a reality in my country not because of the news--but because of a movie: WEST SIDE STORY, that up to now, the disease exists.

Movies are media, Lean. This actually helps to make my point.

Media is any medium through which information flows. It can be in the form of pictures, text, whatever. All of the things you listed are forms of media too. However, when I say "The Media," I'm of course referring to those forms which are mainstream, like news and movies. The exchange of ideas happens on a small scale and on a big scale, but its the big scale that interests me, and I believe it is suggesting that a very sinister exchange of ideas is happening in our media. That's what my essay is about.

This would be an interesting debate to have, but it would be difficult for those who haven't read it, and not acceptable for those who made quite clear with me that such discussions are not welcome here. If anyone should like to discuss it in private, let me know.
