Elon Musk.

One day I may buy an EV, but it will need to have a range to match my current diesel (500 miles) and be totally reliable.

It'll likely be a Toyota.

Brilliant mind with outstanding achievements in Engineering, Business management and Science - or not? Comparable with such giants as Edison, Ford, Rockefeller, Gould or Carnegie - or like all of them, crooked, fraudulent, a bad guy?

Tesla a huge success. Twitter "X' not so much, though an interesting approach to Staff exit policy. Space venture - mixed results so far. Energy storage/distribution likely to earn him more than Tesla. AI - don't really know what he is up to.

Political impact. Biden deserved what he got for excluding Musk in favour of appeasing Legacy auto and the Unions. Trump, if elected, will I am certain, get what he deserves when Musk (and he will) tears him a new one!

Or is Musk just a misunderstood, sweet little man child?

I suspect that in the next 20 years Musk will have more impact on our lives than any politician of the last 30 years. What do you think?
I do like that car! Are you assuming he's done it all on his own with no help from anyone else at all? Did he really design and build and test and redesign that car all by himself? Does he make them all on his own in a factory? Did he design every part and fit them all together? Any single person is not an island. I think many men like the idea of one man doing it on his own, but how real is that way of thinking about people and ingenuity.

CyberTruck
Fun anecdote: the Houston freeway system is prone to flooding, Over the past 20 years they have elevated all of the cloverleaf interchanges to prevent flooding. Beneath them are vast cavern of pavement where the old interstate used to be.

I missed an on-ramp about a month ago, and ended up on a dingy service road that went beneath the behemoth interchange. I was temporarily blocked by a convoy of auto carriers all carrying the same thing: 8 Tesla cyber trucks. I looked to my right and saw an enormous hidden lot of literally hundreds of parked cyber trucks, presumably manufactured up the road in Austin. This can't be seen by air (or drone), only from ground level and then only barely so.

I wonder just how much excess inventory they have right now?

Without getting too caught up in finance, what’s interesting is how much of an expectation gap is needed for Tesla to truly succeed and justify its current valuation. Basically, what Tesla really has going for it right now is that its stock price is sky-high relative to anyone else on the market. It’s the equivalent of sitting on a house that is valued for hundreds of millions of dollars more than all your neighbors houses despite not being fundamentally that much better.

The benefit of it is that you can get banks to loan you a shit ton of money at low interest rates to improve that house. The drawbacks of it is that you have to keep improving your house to justify why it’s even worth its current amount, because everyone keeps saying how much more worth it the house will be when you’re done.

Tesla is basically trapped in its own success. Elon has the ability to make a reality distortion field, but it’s based on a promise of “I will deliver those wild dreams I promised 10 years ago, and then deliver some more!” But the only way he can meet those expectations now is promise something even wilder and crazier.

It’s why he made the trucks in the first place, despite them being terribly impractical. It’s also why he’s promising crazy things on the robotaxi, and when that fizzles into basically being Uber with more AI, he will promise something even wilder and crazier. He cannot stop because he is caught in a loop that demands ever wilder and crazier performance.

It’s also why he’s suddenly become so political, because he wants to exit this inevitable doom loop while still retaining the vast sums he’s amassed in paper wealth. He sees what Trump’s accomplished and realizes he could probably do the same, except even better, and with a far bigger slice of pie.

He’s also been responsible for cheaping out the product. Check out YouTube to see all of the videos of Tesla repairs and the complaints about how it’s basically crap on four wheels now. I remember taking one for a test drive when they first came out and they were amazing—the fit and finish was flawless. That’s when it was over $100k. Now they’ve tried to make them more affordable and they’re the LeCar of EVs.

Unlike Trump, he hires good people that run the Tesla and SpaceX for him. He’s basically running Twitter by himself and look what that got him.

Case in point…Tesla issued a recall today for their Cyber(Shit)Truck. I guess the rear camera has about an 8 second delay after you put it into reverse.

Quality is job 1 at Tesla—testing is job 1,000.

A few years ago an engineer who worked for Honda Jet told a similar story. Jets were piling up but not selling, still they made them.

That is a legitimate question, of course it required the work of many others. But: Ask yourself, what actually happened? Musk bought a majority interest in Tesla and then allowed the original owners 3+ years to manage his money to realize their ambitions. Their ambition was to produce a very expensive/exclusive electric car; the demand just was not there, so Musk removed them, took over as CEO. Under his management the company survived the GFC without going bust - unlike GM and Stellantis (Chrysler) and within 5 years was producing a mid range electric car that people actually bought . The original owners were seriously pissed off at the time, but not so much these days. Their 'rump' stakes in the company have become worth tens of millions of $ but only after Musk took control. I have no problem believing that Musk is a complete A hole as a human being and a malevolent political actor, but that does not detract one iota from his intellect or his ability both as a businessman and an engineer.

I think that Democrats, especially Biden underestimated Musk as a political enemy and Trump grossly overestimates him as a political friend.

I deliberately chose to use the service road again last Thursday, wanting to see if the Tesla truck lot was still adding Tesla trucks.

Oh.
Heck.
Yeah.

Lot is completely full now, they're parking them in a grassy area next to the storage corral, and about a dozen are at the far edge of a second-tier hotel next to the grassy area. I'd love to rent a drone and fly over all this inventory!!

I thought I’d mention Musk’s latest venture that might wind up being grouped with his underground car tunnel in Las Vegas and his flamethrower.

He threw a big party recently at Warner Bros Studio showing off a new robotaxi and robovan. He also had some creepy robot butlers that were roaming around that gave off a nice Skynet/Terminator vibe. It was an invite only event that provided “free rides” to his guests that toured the studio backlot to show off how good they work.

So at first glance, one might think that this is pretty cool. People just jump in these things and they maneuver through the twisty backlot streets—not the easiest task for human drivers as the “streets” that have various facades of different neighborhoods that give the illusion of reality (not unlike Musk himself).

But it didn’t just happen…

What Leon doesn’t want it to be widely known, I’m guessing, is that about a month ago, there were dozens of Teslas roaming those backlot streets after hours. One could assume that they were recording the route data, so there wouldn’t be any problems for this event. So the robotaxis/vans aren’t just driving without having their routes preplanned and preprogrammed. There were no other cars on the streets and no pedestrians to spoil the demonstrations.

So keep that in mind as he tries to roll out this latest venture. It could be great, but it also could be held together with spit and bailing wire when it’s pushed through all of the cities that are going to be dumb enough to allow these things to roam their streets.

The depth and breadth of ignorance spouted by the Musk haters is rather startling.

Why? No one is saying anything that would be clarified by some rando’s views on Elon’s past or this rando’s views on his motivations. The man has chosen to support a fascist sociopath and his billionaire puppeteers over America.

Doesn’t matter what else he’s done or why he did it.

Go suck a sweaty ball, trump-worshipping filth.

Then, you sneak hand-made copies around...

musk's pac sees him donate $75M to buy trump ads
had to smile about musk being THE ONLY donor to the pac and so having complete control over funds and choices

Musk’s super PAC is paying for Trump’s get-out-the-vote operations in battleground states in an effort to bolster turnout for the former president and Republicans in swing districts that could help the GOP win a House majority. The group, called America PAC, is also spending on digital ad campaigns, some of which target young men, trying to get them to the polls to offset Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris’ advantage among women voters.

Musk was America PAC’s only donor, making seven separate contributions between July 3 and Sept. 5, according to its latest filing with the Federal Election Commission. The group spent $72 million and started October with $4 million cash on hand. The bulk of its spending, $68.5 million, supported Trump.

The Democrats have in large part themselves to blame for Musk's support of Trump. Musk was outspoken against the $150 billion of taxpayers money which Washington gave Detroit (GM, Stellantis and Ford) between 2007 and 2024. Joe Biden then organised a White House conference to discuss Electric vehicles and further subsidies. Musk/Tesla was pointedly not invited but Detroit and the Unions were. At the closure of discussions Biden congratulated GM for leading the manufacturing of EV's in America! At that particular moment GM had produced less than 30 EV's whereas Tesla had passed 300,000! At that particular time knowing they had 100% of Bidens support, the Unions made a new deal which within 6 months put 50,000 of their own members out of work and destroyed any International competitiveness at all.

Musk now has a tax deductible IOU for $100 Million + from Trump, and a realization from Harris Democrats that he cannot be ignored in future. Joe Biden's preferred habitat, somewhere in the 1950's is totally in an unrecoverable past.

Bidens 100% tariff on Chinese cars was to pre-empt Trump and essentially an admission of failed policy with respect to US car manufacturing.

Musk is in my view very talented, totally obnoxious and very dangerous to anyone who obstructs him. Biden failed that lesson but I am confident that Trump will in due course be similarly treated by Musk. Butters observation that Musk controls the expenditure of his 'donation' is pertinent.

And as a consolation the new BYD Shark makes the Cyber truck's future look very very uncertain. It will be built in Mexico and sell for about half the price of a Ford with similar capabilities.

“Because the super-rich sociopath wasn’t catered to, he gets to undermine the American government.”

Yeah… no. Fuck him, he belongs in a jail cell. The small kind, without any light or human contact 23 hours out of the day.

It's called Power Yargleup, of course he gets to intervene, undermine, influence the US government "Money talks" is an American principle - especially in politics.

Your second sentence is emotional nonsense. Understandable - I have already labelled him an asshole and obnoxious but wishful thinking will not achieve anything.

lol, this is all idle chatter. Your words are as much emotional nonsense as mine.

Unless it’s backed by cash or bullets, all words are just idle chatter.

Interesting:

White genocide[edit]

See the main article on this topic: White genocide
After decades of mostly ignoring his natal country, Musk claimed that "They are openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa" in 2023, based on a single political rally by the country's third-largest party, the Marxist-Leninist Economic Freedom Fighters, in which an apartheid-era song was sung that included the lyrics "shoot to kill", "kill the Boer" and "kill the farmer".[441]

In November 2023, shortly after agreeing with an antisemitic oriented post that flirted with white genocide conspiracy theories, Musk replied to an exchange between the alt-right racist pundit Jack Posobiec and the far-right Dutch FvD
Wikipedia
politician/pundit Eva Vlaardingerbroek.
Wikipedia
In the thread, Posobiec complained that "white people are the only ones who are supposed to hate their own race in order to be considered good people... and white culture is the only one where hatred of it is considered a virtue".[442] Vlaardingerbroek agreed with the sentiment, insisting that "everyone is allowed to be proud of their race, except for white people, because we’ve been brainwashed into believing that our history was somehow 'worse' than that of other races."[443] These statements, of course, were obvious racist loaded language based on a perceived persecution complex against whites, similar to such alt-right memes as It's Okay To Be White. Of course, Musk completely agreed with the statements, replying that it was "time for this nonsense to end and shame ANYONE who perpetuates these lies!"[444] [445]

Why is it that the only response to opposition to the Leftist ideology is violence and trampling the law and rights of the people?
