Erotic vs porn

I see erotica as a softer experience, something with a little more emotion, more artistic.
Porn is more hard edged, more exploitation.

Ok, this is a personal opinion. The pics I have taken of Jenn are porn. Dirty, action pics showing mainly private areas... I guess what would be considered hard core by some.

Who is Jen? And where are those pics?

Well i had say a porn is anything nude, where as erotic pics need not be nudes but they are tho once that show sexuality like none other can, they are beautiful piece of art one wishes to see time and again.
An erotic pic ca be one where a model is not nude, but still it makes you feel aroused.
also as in your case you are used to see your wife so even a semi erotic pic may seem porn to you.
Just ask her to be relaxed and feel comfortable and then try again

I think you need to go back to the root of the words.

pornography=porne=dealing with prostitution
erotica=eros=sexual love

Here is what I would do.

In your opinion, what's the difference? I've been trying to shoot erotic photos of my wife but they keep coming out like porn, so I don't show them around.

Then I see something like this, which is sexier than any shot I've taken of my wife with nothing on:

And I think I don't know what I"m doing. Where do you draw the line? Anyway I've been learning from the good glam photographers at places like photocamel and glamour1 but I guess I have a lot to learn about lighting.

So what's erotic and what's porn to you?

Take lots of shots of Glamour photos. Silouettes near nudes etc, never show her full face.

Get your audience interested and begging for more.

Then slip in a totally porn photo. her sucking your dick for example. again not showing her full face.

Then build up your followers into a cult where they beg you to show more of her.

Having captured them you can show anything she will let you photo!

There is no difference between Glamour and Porn any more!

I just think it's the difference between whether the pic makes you imagine the sex in your head, or in your cock. (or your pussy if you're a woman!) :)

Does it spark your imagination, or create a tingle in your genitals? I figure that's the difference. Some is for the mind, some is for the body.

Well that would leave the whole interpretation wide open then, wouldn't it?

Porn and Erotica Can Complement Each Other

I agree with many of you that the difference between porn and erotica is subjective. But one thing that porn is and erotica ain't is exploitative and money-based. Porn is a business, whether it's the photography or the films/vids. However, porn can be erotic, too. To make matters more confusing, there are women filmmakers out there who are trying to make highly evolved porn, for female viewers, I suppose.

By the way, I've read hard-core erotica but it never came off as porn in my dirty mind.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Now, I'm ready to jerk off to some pics of scantily clothed ladies over on the Amateur Pic Feedback threads.

In case the answers already to your post are not vague enough, here are my thoughts.

I've always thought of "erotica" as "good porn." Or, conversely, "porn" is "bad erotica."

The difference to me is in how the personality of the model shines through. Even closeups of body parts can, through lighting or pose or posture, give *some* since of the individual erotic spark that animates every human in a totally unique way. The most depressing and alienating "erotic" experience I can have is looking at a completely stylized pose of a boringly conventionally "hot" body which is completely interchangeable with millions of other, virtually identical images.

What makes your gal *totally* unique? What gesture, pose, expression moves you to passion? And what is completely unique about the way you see her? If you honor her throughout the process, the techniques just might take care of themselves.

Anyway, my two cents. Good luck to the both of you, and take good care of each other.
