I’ve been listening to the latest Father John Misty album, Mahashmashana on hard repeat, and there is a line in the song, Being You, that makes me laugh,

I’m nodding yes,
I’m making my face go like I’m listening,
“That’s nice.”

And, in a more serious vein, the title track has a great turn,

Love’s the birthright of young people,
And she ain’t leaving without his…

There's an old Alice in Chains line that I like. I can't remember what song it is.

Then some dude came down to touch the mother
Mother touched, dude aint here no more

I don't know what it means, but it sounds like mother beat him to it and it didn't turn out well for dude.

Maylyn Manson "Kaboom"

'We're tasteless, but taste good'

In one sense its an awful line, yet it has its appeal for some reason.

"I had my share of women
They had their share of me
They told me I was trouble
And I don't disagree"

"I believe I've passed the age
Of consciousness and righteous rage,
I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right."

Billy Joel: Angry Young Man

"How I wish,
How I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
swimming in a fish bowl
year after year.
Running over the same old ground,
what have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here..."

"...and everything under the sun is in tune,
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."

Pink Floyd, lyrics by Roger Waters.

The verses just before that capture what was it like to be twenty in 1975.

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell? Blue skies from pain?
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange
A walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
