David Lynch and American Beauty

I agree with the person who mentioned the scene between Laura Elena Harring and Naomi Watts in Mulholland Drive.
Even Naomi Watts' masturbation scene in that movie has become legendary.
David Lynch (the director) can really deliver the seriously sensual mood. I would also recommend Wild At Heart, Lost Highway, or even Blue Velvet if you like rougher, less tender sex scenes.
Wild at Heart has Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern in it, and they're always having passionate sex.
There's also this crazy scene between Laura Dern and Willem Defoe; it starts off by repulsing you because he's an unnerving creep and she's suddenly left alone with him. He begins by telling her she's a slut, and by the end of the ten minutes (!) he's touched her everywhere and it's really steamy- you can't believe it's over.
Odd, because that stuff usually turns me off, but for some reason my pot boiled over...

I also have to admit that even though I'm not turned on by the sex between Peter Gallagher and Annette Bening in American Beauty, I for some reason always think of it as an iconic "that's how sex should be" scene.
It's also the scene I think of when I meet someone who seems to be sexually repressed and needs a jolly good rogering

I'll second that! Both flicks ("Wild At Heart" and "Blue Velvet") are fun. Wild At Heart was one of the first films that Nicholas Cage was in; it's the one where I "discovered" him.

This really is a great thread. I'd forgotten so many of these hot scenes and it's wonderful to have an aide memoire to bring them back to mind.
