I enjoy reading true stories about peoples own experiences.

I agree with this. Like when I'm not at the forums and reading stories on Lit, if it's "based on a true story" or on the author's own experiences, it has more appeal to me. Makes sense, because in the writing world, the creative non-fiction market is growing and is becoming quite lucrative, more so than fiction. Like "A Million Little Pieces" is fiction, but got pitched as a memoir by the author in order to get it published. It goes to show that people hunger for "true stories".
