Feedback, editing and giving a hand

I don't have to be involved in a discussion every single day. I don't have something to add to a discussion after every other post. And that's not a dig at you, I really just don't want to spend more time on the forums than I need to.

I was pretty much done with my last post, unless you wanted to discuss it further, which you apparently didn't.

Have a pleasant day.

I haven’t been ignoring my own thread, but travelling with a BlackBerry makes life difficult to post and I wanted to see how the debate went without my two cents.

I’m not quoting because it would make things too long, but I think much of what Mrtouf, Lynn, dark, Epmd, CWatson and adamzapple say cuts to the essential here and I hope people will go back and read the comments.

I have often rightly been ticked off by Saint Lynn for being a tad OTT. I take the point that being too dogmatic is unhelpful.

It would be nice if newbies, old hands and anyone who was interested added their comments, but my take so far is this;
-Writers post stories here for feedback and publicity – we confuse new writers with vote hounds. Both are worthy.

-There is a tendency to pontificate which, even if justified, doesn’t help new writers.

-Amongst long-time members and neophyte writers there is a frustration that their requests for feedback get subsumed in ridiculous debate. I plead guilty to this and promise to ignore future ad hominem attacks.

-As dark said, and Lynn so often picks us up on, some of us have a tendency to push our opinions dogmatically. I will never change my antipathy to first person for new creative writers but I will express myself more reasonably.
