feminine names.

I go by Maxine when dressed up as it's the fem for Max but I also like Julia as a girls name.

What about:

1) Josephine
Josephine Cochran invented the first practical dishwasher, unveiled at the 1893 World's Fair.

2) Beulah
FYI, Beulah Henry of Memphis, Tennessee created about 110 inventions and held 49 patents. Beulah Henry was considered one of the "Lady Edisons" for her prolific career in inventing.

3) Miriam
Miriam Benjamin was a Washington D.C. school teacher and the second black woman to receive a patent.

4) Bessie
Bessie Blount, was a physical therapist who worked with soldiers injured in W.W.II. Bessie Blount's war service inspired her to patent a device, in 1951, that allowed amputees to feed themselves.

5) Frances
The ultimate convenience invention must certainly be inventor Frances Gabe’s self-cleaning house. The house, a combination of some 68 time, labor and space saving mechanisms, makes the concept of housework obsolete.

6) Ada
Ada Lovelace was a mathamatician from the 1800's who anticipated the eventual creation of computers.

7) Hedy
Hedy Lamarr was both a movie star and help invent a communication system that helped the allies defeat the Germans.

8) Ruth
Ruth Handler not only co-invented the Barbie doll, but after her own breast cancer experience, she received a patent for "Nearly Me", a prosthesis made of material close in weight and density to natural breasts.

9)Gertrude
Gertrude Elion patented the leukemia-fighting drug 6-mercaptopurine in 1954 and has made a number of significant contributions to the medical field.

10) Last but not least, the name Rosalind
Rosalind Franklin was one of the brightest minds of the 20th century. She was denied most of the recognition she should have received for the discovery of the DNA double helix. (Her male counter parts took a lot of her work without giving her due credit. She should have gotten the nobel for her contribution.) She died at an early age due to all her work exposure to x-rays.

======================

In summary, a woman's glamour (or for that matter a male's too) doesn't come from what a name sounds like when it roles off the tongue, but by what one does with their life. These names may not sound "sexy", but our world is a better place for the Rosalind's etc. that were once with us.

While I agree with n2_n2 on that point, I think realism is called for in this situation. For t-girls who want to pass fully as women, you have to pick a name carefully. Pick something that was popular around the time you were born, and be careful with spelling variations because that is a somewhat recent phenomenon. No offense, but Clorabelle, Venessa, Lesley-Jane...these are all attention-getters, and if someone thinks there is something odd about your name, they will scrutinize you all the more closely. (See also the post I made way up at the top of this thread, from 2006.)

For example, the names n2_n2 gave:
1) Josephine - hasn't been popular since 1910, currently #121st most common, 0.2% of women have this name
2) Beulah - hasn't been popular since 1900, died out in 1960s, currently #360th most common, 0.05% of women have this name
3) Miriam - popularity peaked in 1910, currently #285th most common, 0.07% of women have this name
4) Bessie - extremely popular in 1880s, died out in 1970s, currently #221st most common, 0.1% of women have this name
5) Frances - popularity peaked in 1910, currently #47th most common, 0.4% of women have this name
6) Ada - very popular in 1880s, died out in 1980s, slight resurgence in 2004, #310th most common, 0.06% of women have this name
7) Hedy - popular only from 1930s to 1950s, but never above #900th most popular, currently #2830th most common, 0.002% of women have this name
8) Ruth - most popular in 1910, currently #19th most common, 0.6% of women have this name
9)Gertrude - peaked in 1890s, died out in 1960s, currently #207th most common, 0.1% of women have this name
10) Last but not least, the name Rosalind - peaked in 1960s, died out in 1980s, currently #642nd most common, 0.02% of women have this name

While it's admirable to name yourself after famous, successful, pioneering, and wonderful women, I don't think it's practical for a t-girl who wants to pass fully. If you want to be like Alexis Arquette - who calls herself a transgender woman rather than "just" a woman, that's fine...but if you want to pass fully, I would encourage conservatism in names.

The sites I used for the above stats are: NameStatistics.com and NameVoyager.

I'm having trouble picking out a feminine name...

So... any transgendered/crossdressing guys with feminine monikers care to help out?

How did you pick out your feminine name? Is it just a feminization of your masculine/given name, or is it something completely different? I've toyed with a few, but none seem to ring true to me. My given name is Joseph (Joe), so I've considered Jojo, Joey, and Josie, but none of these seem feminine enough.. Any suggestions..? Maybe don't try to go with a derivative of my given name..?

if you are serious go with something completely away from your own name unless you get confused easily and get mixed up with who you are at the time.

I love Joy, Jo, Joanna, Johannah

Best wishes on your journey.

I chose a name that I was called a lot as a child, so it was easy for me. The hard part was finally coming out of the closet as transgender. Coming out gay was difficult, but coming out now is more careful and circumspect.

Some people are obviously born with the wrong sexual organs, I look at you and can not see you have ever having to be anything but what you are. A beautiful Woman

Thank you, what a very sweet thing to say. Even though in non girl mode I am totally out and proud, I have always been self conscious about my male parts. I just wish they were gone. That would be and would have been so much better.

I think you are beautiful.

i think as other people have suggested, there's a big difference between picking a girl name for fetish-y reasons, to be sexy and fun (in which case you want something unusual that stands out) and picking one to live a normal life as a woman (in which case you want something that sounds quite normal). i've gone with lulu as it sounds loose and flirty, i think of the things suggested on here "joy" ticks the most boxes for you.

When it comes to be called names I tend to prefer the traditional ones. Call me Slut, Bitch, Cum-Bucket, Whore, Cheap Faggot, Cock-Sucker… you know the ones...

Hopefully she'll have found a name in the intervening 9 years ;)
I went for a family name because I'm lucky enough to have a mostly supportive family and I'm a bit old fashioned like that. I think the Peaches, Trixibell, Apple parents need to get a grip and not make their children into objects of derision... I mean how about Hulahoop or Jellytot?

Well, my name is a unisex name so I chose to use it in the spelling of the name I prefer. Emilee.

I think the op should have gone with Jodi. :)

This is a great topic! I am still trying to find a feminine name that fits. I have thought about Brigitte, Rachel, Stephanie, Megan, and lots of others. There are so many pretty names to choose from!

Ugh...well captain obvious...great way to kill a fun thread ;) 9 years huh...you know some people just move more slowly than others...lol and some of us just like to relive the past! You know: glory days, and all. Heck, you weren't even born yet, missy ;)

Actually , I have this same question.

I'm an average looking guy on the outside, but inside I just feel like I have the soul of a ditzy busty blonde. I also have trouble coming up with a name for my true self. I was thinking of a unisex name, i.e Brook, Shannon, ... something like that. But I never really could find something I really liked.

Do you guys have any ideas for me ?

Was so... I was 14!
