Festivus "Airing of grievances"

Charity workers that knock on your door, either when you've just got in from work, eating dinner or even as you're going to bed.

Charity buskers who can't play their instruments, and probably don't realise some of the money they collect goes to lobbying against gay rights.

It's almost 25C and I am laying by the pool listening to I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas on the radio. I feel like the radio station have lost the memo that it won't show here over Christmas or are maybe looked at a weather forecast for somewhere alot further north than here.

I heard an interview on NPR this morning with Colbie Callait (hopefully I spelled that right) she has a holiday album called "Christmas in the Sand".

It's got Sand! In the title!
The snippets they played were very beachy and fun sounding.

This thread is making me want to smoosh all the cutesy animals, especially grumpy kitty. I just looove grumpy looking kitties!

It dawned on me today, I have been searching for ten years for the perfect nativity scene.

And I really done think I'm being unreasonable in what I'm looking for.

So its highly niche'd, and I have a "look" I'm looking for, and certain elements I want to see in it; but to look for ten years and still not find it...

The extreme commercialization of the Christmas holiday makes me want to boycott it. I hate it. Seeing Christmas decorations go up in my local chain stores BEFORE Halloween is even done! There was once a day when those displays weren't put up until the day after Thanksgiving, as it should be.

Working part-time in a national chain toy store I get to see the greed first hand. :( I witnessed an overflowing cart full of toys & gadgets being purchased for one child; the total was almost $1000...

The only bright spot to that is seeing the generosity of others as they gave gifts to fill the ambulance out in front of the store for those kids who will otherwise have nothing.

Having to go over to my ex's parent's house for Christmas day, because they want to see the kids. I really want nothing to do with them and her, and I'd much rather be alone that day, but I'll put on my smiley mask. I'll hold my tongue and suffer through it because I want it to be a happy day for my kids.

What's the look?

The best one I've ever seen was all action figures.

Hmm. That's two 16GB iPads.

You didn't.

Please.... tell me you didn't.

-sigh-

I like to say things like that. It makes me happy.

New annoyance: people I can barely call "acquaintances" bringing over armloads of wrapped gifts.

Caveat: This person is good friends with my mother, through the church she goes to. They do Bible Study together every week, and I have met this person multiple times.

But we don't "know" each other. She has no more idea the type of gift I would like then a complete stranger would (unless she talked to mom about it, which is possibility).

I did not get this person a gift. I did not get this person a *card*. She was not on my Christmas-radar in the least. .... And now I'm feeling guilty because someone I barely know brought me presents, and I didn't get them anything, and I don't feel I should *have* to feel guilty about not getting them anything.

*growls*

It hasn't been warmer than 47F (8C) all day and is currently 38F (3C) now. Since I've been coughing, hacking, and wheezing all day, I now know just how cold it has to be for my asthma to start acting up.

Eff you, winter!

Cake is always better with booze! The Europeans sure got that one right. :D

*heads over to Seela's house for decadent hangover cake*

The tradition for my family is to bake them in the summer and feed them with alcohol until Christmas. At the point where you would get a reasonable buzz from a smallish slice, they are good to go....serve with homemade brandy butter of course, not smothered in crappy oversweet icing.

I hate that with days to go until Christmas I cannot go to a shop to buy simple groceries as they are rammed with asshats fighiting over turkeys and clogging the checkout. I just want a pint of milk dammit!
