I've never understood what a fetish or kink is tho I've long assumed I had kinks in my coil. My dictionaries give interesting definitions including the psychological (non genital something or other that inevitably causes arousal--NON GENITAL???!!! Like a feather? The whole bird?! Or perhaps this is the old school represented by Dr. Koop who fatuously declared that the anus is not an organ of sex).

As a practical matter I'd come to regard them simply as things most (many?) did not do; uncommon; out of the ordinary. In decades past that would make oral and anal sex qualify notwithstanding statistics stating that the majority had tried them more than once. So clearly they weren't all that foreign. Add to that the fact that in even anonymous polls men exaggerate while women reduce...and what have you got?

Since most things are so common today, what is a fetish or kink aside from the individual prospective?

And to answer your question, I've always enjoyed mine, whatever they are so long as they weren't likely to lead to incarceration. (As late as the '60s people actually went to prison [in the US] for even marital and consensual anal sex for what it's worth.) On the other hand, since I’m no longer outside the mainstream or at least within a substantial minority, that special tang associated with activities is less; so popularity has resulted in their lack of improvement as youth has receded. *SIGH*

We've always had a good sex life but it's definately gotten kinkier as we've gotten older and we know have more fetishes than ever. I think sex is more prominent in society and not as hidden away. There are now Ann summers sex shops in most city centres and internet has helped as well. Even though I'm loathe to admit 50 shades of grey has increased interest in bondage and and sex that would've been taboo a few years ago and is now accepted.
