Food Pron: Recipes and Techniques.

In my head sounds good, trying to actually wrap that bacon so tight around cheese so it's not oozing out all over, however.

You try first. :D
Hi aqua, I finally bought bacon-turkey since it's already cooked and i wont have to fry it as long. I plan on doing it this weekend, i'll let you know how much cheese oozes out. I was thinking dough or panko breading, not sure which one yet.

When crumbing gingernut biscuits in the food processor, put all the gingernuts in, with the lower blade, (not the grater attachments) and start off at a low speed and then bring it up to high.

Having all of the gingernuts in there seems to help it blend better, as you're more likely to blend biscuit than air.

Using the lower blade reduces stress on the machine, as does the slow to high speed.

So how'd it go? And what kind of cheese did you use?

Morning aqua, I decided to go with the biscuit dough, we did some late night shopping, so I will make them today and post a picture. Yesterday was yardwork, I hate weeds, they are so inconvenient, lol.

It will be later today, only 10 and I am still in bed :)

bail quoth:
not my recipe, but one that my dad got a hold of from somewhere. this is your typical bowl of texas red, meaning no beans, corn, macaroni or other "foreign objects" allowed! ;)

recipe tweaks: since it makes a ton of chili, i cut the recipe in half and still end up freezing some for later use.
that recipe sounds great! me, i'm thinking the sugar is highly optional, myself: i tend to be acid-positive when it comes to food. :D

query quoth:
chickpeas are one of those rare foods that i am pretty sure i hate.
i'll confess, i find that mystifying.

query quoth:
legumes are always iffy for me. i disliked peanut-butter till i found that it was chunky i objected to. peas i will eat only if they are small and new from the garden.
it's amazing how big a difference texture can make in terms of enjoyment with any given food item, isn't it? i find that peas with mint make a lovely combination, myself. it's pretty classically british, but give it a shot sometime.

Ok, here they are. Heart attack city, bacon, cheese and pillsbury biscuits. 1 was enough but I ate 2 :)

Oh, those look good!! I like the idea of pastry dough better than biscuits, they would cook faster and be much lighter.

These were the yummiest bacon concoctions yet!

Bacon wrapped pineapple. Then I used the same sauce on top while BBQing as I did with the bacon asparagus. The pineapple was like candy heaven in my mouth.

YUM. I ended up letting my pineapple get over-ripe and just sauteed the salvageable bits in a pan.

I was stuck picturing it like the bacon-onion rings. It didn't occur to me to make wedges and wrap them that way. Much easier.

Question for both of you - did you precook the bacon before wrapping?

I think the rings would have been too flimsy, so I just cut stalks.

No, the bacon was raw.

Thanks. I once made bacon wrapped boneless chicken thighs on the smoker, but I precooked the bacon a bit. Having said that, I need to make those again. They were delicious!

The bacon grease is soaking into whatever you make for that extra flavor, so to precook completely would be missing out.

Should have said parcooked. I don't care for rubbery bacon, but I would never completely precook.

I used turkey bacon, it's already cooked. If I would have used reg bacon the biscuits would have burned.

Turkey bacon....I've bought it when it's on sale, but would never think to use it for stuff like this. But sounds good for the biscuits.

It's kind of salty and wont replace that really good bacon flavor, but I think it was a good substitute since the cooking time was short. Won ton wrappers or phyllo would be another substitute as well, fast cooking and not as heavy tasting.

OK, did do the bacon wrapped pineapple last night. Not bad, tasty, not sure I'll do it again. It was kind of a novelty. And I did slightly precook the bacon, but it was still greasy enough, and it came out nice and crisp. :)

Were they an appetizer? Post pictures, anything with bacon is always good :).

Sorry, didn't take any. They weren't exactly photogenic, and they were an appetizer for my wife, a main course for me.

Now, the pork butt I'm smoking today, and the salmon I smoked last week, those are a different story. We're throwing a belated birthday party for me this weekend, having a few peeps over. I thought I'd try out the pineapple on us first instead of our friends. :)

Sounds yummy, happy belated birthday!

I made broccoli-pistachio pesto pasta last night and it was delicious and easy! Took frozen broccoli, defrosted and cooked it, shelled some pistachios, added salt, pepper and a few cloves of garlic, then threw all that in the blender along with plain Greek yogurt and parmesan cheese. Cooked my pasta, tossed the sauce into the pasta pot when it was done, added a little pasta water to thin it out, and bam. Perfect weeknight meal.

I love meals that sound like they take hours to prepare but are very easy to pull off.

That meal sounds great! Haven't made pesto in ages.

Pesto is real easy, doesn't take long, and you can use a variety of greens and nuts. I like to make mine with spinach, walnuts, garlic, olive oil and parmesan cheese. And of course, adding more cheese once it's plated. :)
