Forty-somethings

I said I wanted a tatoo for my 50th. I'm still looking for something I would like on my body. I really like the sleeves, but that would probably be a little too much for my profession and I don't want to wear long sleeves all the time while I work.

Since I work with old people, I often wonder what all the body modification is going to look like when people get old. Tatoos move and stretch, piercings leave big gaps...

Breast implants, Hah!

I think it's mostly BTDT, there really isn't all that much that's truly new.......even body piercing as a fashion item goes back over 20 years to the birth of punk rock, it's just more accepted now.

The big advantage the youth of today have is the rarity of any dominant fashion and therefore a (relative to our youth )lack pressure to conform, individuality is, if not encouraged, at least respected.

BTW

I have yet to get a head job from a lady with a tongue piercing, but I am determined to get one at some stage;)

I'd have to agree with you, Oz.

And I have. As Pink said, having the piercing doesn't automatically confer talent.

One of my staff has the ear modifications..you know where you put plugs/grommets, whatever in them. She can insert up to 2 1/4 inch around items.

She also has a beauty mark piercing above her lip, a nose ring, a brow piercing, a tongue piercing and a piercing on the nape of her neck.

She's going to school to become a nurse. Yeah.

The girl next door type, huh?

~kym~

Yeah! She also used to do suspensions..you know, where they hang you from hooks through your skin?

Funny part is, her dad is/was a top guy at one of the major banks here, very VERY upper class family. I often wonder if she does/did it for shock value or for attention?

She hasn't been accepted into a program, yet, has she?

Yes, she has. But right now it's all classroom, they've told her she'll have to remove everything when the practical starts.

I dunno LG, is it me or has the world gone mad?
I've no issues with anyone doing such to their body, but ...
It seems awfully extreme to get attention!

~kym~ maybe I'm the one who's mad

Nope, I don't get it either. I think in her case, it's a need for attention in whatever way possible.

Too bad, because she's a good kid.

Very romantic, Kiss. You are indeed the HowTo board's resident poet.:rose:
Sorry, I missed this earlier.

If I'm the resident poet, does that mean I can romance all the young ladies and offer them verses under a shady tree on a summer's day?

Do you mean the inexperienced maidens or the "young" ladies who appreciate a man who knows the true meaning of romance?;)

Name the tree and I'll bring the lemonade.

Perhaps this verse, borrowed from a friend, says it better than I could tonight:

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you’re young at heart
For it’s hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you’re young at heart

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
And life gets more exciting with each passing day
And love is either in your heart or on it’s way

Don’t you know that it’s worth every treasure on earth
To be young at heart
For as rich as you are it’s much better by far
To be young at heart

And if you should survive to 105
Look at all you’ll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

And if you should survive to 105
Look at all you’ll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

You know what they say....you have to kiss a few frogs to find a prince. I'm thinking with those guidelines 40 qualifies as young.

But Kisso, what are you doing in a 40-something thread when I distinctly remember seeing 39 associated with your birthday just today.......are you lying about your age, pray tell?

yea, a rosebud tattooed on the breast at 20, turns into a long stem by 60!

~kym~ I'll pass, thank you :)

LMAO Kym!!

This is exactly the reason why I do not have a tattoo. I've yet to find one that won't look more demonic and unrecognizable as gravity takes over my body parts.

Then of course there is the pain issue....

In my heart I am a very young forty-something but the truth is that I have celebrated my 39th more than once. :D

How much of what you see the young-uns up to these days is BTDT, and how much is WTF?
In the latter category, I have to put piercings.
In particular, "Excuse me, I'd like to have a spike driven through my tongue so I can have a piece of metal in my mouth all the time without accidentally swallowing it."
On the upside, once you're past forty, you may be old enough to know better, but you're also too old to care. ;)

BTDT for most everything. And I personally love the tattoos and piercings. If I were back in my 20's I'd be covered with them. I have 3 tattoos as it is - and plans for more. My daughters have had almost everything pierced: belly buttons, tongues, cartilidge, brows, lips, etc. I love it.
