Hey what is wrong with Packard Bell???
Our first computer was a PB and it still does a fine job....of holding up the end of the desk.

Give it a few days and it will manage to screw that up too. :)

Is it just me?

Well, in the midst of all the hellish customer support stories I felt I should share my tale. :)

A few months ago I called IBM Customer Support (the Canadian number since I am in Canada). The problem was my IBM Workpad z50 was having some kind of battery problem and it kept going dead.

Now, since I work until 3:30 in the morning I called at about 4 am. Even though I didn't have the warrenty information for my computer, the tech person who answered helped me anyway. He was very friendly and helpful and I was beyond pleasantly surprised. (One hears all the computer tech support horror stories after all.) Well, after waiting for me to fumble with a screwdriver to get off the battery compartment of my computer and check the batteries we determined that the problem was probably the backup battery. I hung up about 45 minutes later with the plans to go buy some new batteries the next day. The customer support guy said he would keep the case file open for a week in case that wasn't the problem and I needed to call back. When I put in new batteries my laptop worked as good as new and I felt like a complete moron that it was something as simple as replacing the goddamn batteries.

I was impressed enough with the customer service I got that I sent an email to IBM praising them for it.

And I'm not sure if only IBM does this but a few weeks later I received a phone call which was like a customer service survey where they asked me whether my experience calling them was pleasant and helpful etc. So, as far as customer technical support is concerned, my call to IBM was great.

Unfortunately, the backup battery in my laptop seems to be causing me problems again so it is time to call them back and troubleshoot some more since backup batteries surely don't have to be replaced every goddamn month! I'll keep you posted on how that goes. :)

Have you considered doing a registry edit? In laymen's terms...that means you tell your computer to change things back to the way they were on a certain date when you know the computer was functioning properly.

Then you can go and re-download the whole thing again and see if that works.

Feel free to tell me my idea sucks...I am not the brightest bulb on the tree when it comes to computers.

Nd this is the girl who says she cant work ICQ... in that case what else cant you work?

ICQ sucks....I only have it for one reason. :)

The only reason I know about the Registry Edit is because I tend to screw up my computer quite frequently and I have to go back and have a "do over".

What else can't I do? The list is long. I can't say no when I mean yes. I can't go when I want to stay. I can't do calculus. I can't understand chemistry for the life of me. I can't turn off my emotions. I can't always have a good day. :)

I own a generic pc, the support is local and free for the first year. Had my initial problem last week. Called the support number and the phone was answered by a real person. This extremely knowledgeable woman had my computer fixed in less then five minutes...then she asked me what I was wearing, then I asked her what she was wearing, then she told me to take my clothes off. I asked her to remove her clothing, she told me she was already naked. Pretty soon we were talking dirty to each other, and masturbating. It was great!

Until I found out their was a $5.00 per minute charge for everything that happened after my computer was fixed.

Hey, I didn't want Angelique to think that this thread was never gonna wonder into a sexually related theme.
