Now if one is talking booze I love rum and coke and a squeeze of lime heavy on the rum too. I used to do shots of 151 ahhh the night ended too quickly with that stuff.

Yep. Not making any endorsements or discussing politics in general. Just saying that this is American history. A sitting U.S. President has come out (okay, bad pun) for marriage equality. Unprecedented.

Overdue, but not overdone! (I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some other news I was missing. We don't hear a whole lot of U.S. news in Canada.)
I keep hoping they'll push through a nation-wide marriage equality act like they did in Canada. It would mean I could return to the U.S. and quit this visa dance. I'd make my partner do it instead.

Not likely with the highly decentralized marriage law structure, but a repeal of DOMA would be a great move forward.

On a different note, my stepdaughter got a note from a girl. A love letter. Touching, though my stepdaughter is straight. She admitted to feeling bad for the girl. It's always sad whenever someone has feelings for you that you can't reciprocate. It's not that you don't wish to, but you just can't. It's one of the lessons in life that sometimes you're forced to hurt people and you have no wish to do so. It's tough to learn that lesson at her age, though.
I felt bad for both of them.

Aww. Yeah. Good for the girl for writing, though. It's nerve-wracking. And good for your stepdaughter for being so cool about it!
Growing up is never easy. Best to do it with as much courage and grace as possible.
