Hate Mail

i have been pounded with hate mail from my last submission of loving wife

Join the club. We should rename that section, "Thunder Dome." LW stories are tough because a lot of men who've had bad marriages become obsessed with that section. If you write something that excuses a wife's indescretion, a lot of them are going to be angry. I've found a tentative truce with most of them, but expect them to turn on me the moment I write something they don't like.

It's actually helpful because it forces me to be a more disciplined writer. When I tried to write a Romance story, I found it to be very easy and the comments were so nice I couldn't believe it. I owe it all to the hate mail (along with some good construcive criticism). It made me a better writer (of course it also made my wall look like swiss cheese :) ).

That's excellent, congrats! CharleyH wrote a great post about ignoring the hate (like you've never said bad things about a movie star who you thought did a bad job?). I'd definitely rather get views and comments than a small number of people patting me on the back. I've begun to notice an interesting correlation between the number of views and the number of votes. If people feel passionately enough about a story, they vote a lot more, so I look at the number of votes with pride as well (so the story I have with 70 votes, evidently not so good :( ).
