All right. I can see that.
On the one hand, what could be insulting about adults furthering their education? After all, there are thousands of people who continue their educations after they've entered the business world (night classes, sabbaticals, etc.).
On the other hand, the term "adult education" is sometimes used to imply the adults being educated are developmentally disabled, or, like HawaiiBill said, its purpose is to educate people who don't have the basics of the language to function in the world (the operative world here being the US ).
I think what this all comes down to is a discussion over semantics, and what Aaron inferred from HawaiiBill's original comment.
