Help Editioning

All right. I can see that.

On the one hand, what could be insulting about adults furthering their education? After all, there are thousands of people who continue their educations after they've entered the business world (night classes, sabbaticals, etc.).

On the other hand, the term "adult education" is sometimes used to imply the adults being educated are developmentally disabled, or, like HawaiiBill said, its purpose is to educate people who don't have the basics of the language to function in the world (the operative world here being the US :p ).

I think what this all comes down to is a discussion over semantics, and what Aaron inferred from HawaiiBill's original comment.

Sorry, but seeing this at the end of the latest post that's picking a fight about whether a fight should have been picked about a disagreement that happened ages ago just has me giggling a bit.

I've got that kind of humour.

Don't mind me, chat amongst yourselves.

*grin* Can we chat about whether giggling at people is innately a cause for offense? ;) Watch out, Ginger - people will think you are anti-semantic.

It's okay, but I never wrote that.I never thought that. I certainly don't think it now. In fact, it is a totally erroneous statement. That might be one of its millions of possible purposes, but it is not "it's purpose."

Just before this thread drops into the cyber void, let's consider a couple of points.

1. Adult education is a process that never ends.
2. Some adults do it on their own.
3. Others learn the hard way and wind up with knots on their head but, eventually, some street smarts.
4. Still others attend classes or, if some here prefer, workshops or seminars or buy CD's from internet sales to learn something. Anything!
5. It appears that there are some who think adults do not educate themselves. They have apparently been watching too much Bush on TV. He's not like the rest of us.
6. Education doesn't stop with graduation. That 'commencement' address was supposed to be about a 'beginning.' You are out of school, now you can 'commence' learning in the real world.
7. Adult education is a process that never ends.

It is silly in the extreme to think that 'adult education' in any facet of its expression deals with any fixed level of learning. It deals with everything from learning to read through getting a doctorate in brain surgery. If someone you know has a problem understanding that, he or she needs some adult education. Fast. Help them.

If they resist, ignore their pleas for help later. Other, more deserving people, need your attention.

As you were.

Tried to Let it die But couldnt

Sorry Tried to let it die but I could not. How this turned into what Adult Education is, is rather discouraging as I said before. And I said it in my second post

“I was asking for a little help editing not education.“
All threw this thread that really didn’t upset me. I keep reading it and saying “My God did anyone even read what I said?” How clear can I make it? 4 times I meant to post on this thread again and didn’t or wrote something then deleted them.

Then I suddenly realized there is something here, beyond the original Point I tried to make. It’s amazing how out of context things can be taken. I said this before and I’ll say again. I wasn’t insulted by Hawawii bill’s first commit. I just thought it was rude. His seconded post was however insulting (tenth post on the thread.) ack away from the point again.

When I said he was being rude. The defense became whether Suggesting Adult Education was insulting or not. When the Defense should have been. “When asking for help is saying no your not worth the time get educated.” is insulting or not.

Which I found really hard to take as an innocent suggestion.

And what on earth Snooper did you read of mine?

Ok this is going on too long Bottem line as simple as i can explain it.

I asked for help editing and was told to go get Educated.

No matter how “Polite” it was said that’s what happened.

I agree with all this BTW. But there is a deeper point in there with Bush. If you are an Idiot Daddy can get you threw life. Can even get you famous. But it won’t change the fact you still an idiot.
