Hikari's Hotspring Hideaway

Slips over the side unoticed while the hostess is busy entertining .... heads for the shower then for the entertainment room to pick a movie to watch .....

Finally gets out of the hot springs and head to the tea house for a iced hot chocolate, as odd as it sounds.

Hikari-Sensei,
I learned something very important today.
There may be no skill more important in photoshop than being able to 'select' well.
Given that my hands shake some, it would seem that I can do little to progress until i practice that (along with using my tablet).
Ah well.
I shall endeavor.

Your Student,
Vailish

There is nothing more awesome than the magnetic lasso tool. Also when using your magic wand tool you can hold down the shift key to add additional selections.

So sayeth the lord...I mean uhh..so sayeth Hikari..

I was playing with the magnetic lasso, I like it. I'm just not used to having to have any real accuracy in what I do.
The magic wand is a tad fickle.

Yeah but I was mentioning holding down shift to add things to your selection in certain cases. I mean you'll have those tiny unselected bits that you can add with the power of shift key. Allows you to have multiple selected areas at once.

TOO MUCH TOO MUCH!

ok
:)

To increase the contrast to allow the magic lasso tool to work a little better on areas that are too close to your threshold, try first using the Unsharp Mask filter with very low radius and threshold levels, but higher percentage amount to enhance the borderlines between your desired selection and background elements.

Be sure to save the original first, in case you need to experiment with settings.

Hey! Why aren't you in here with your photoshop nerdiness more often? :D

Unfortunately, it's because the last time I used Photoshop in any professional capacity was several versions ago, when they still came in numbers, rather than as part of a CS. Since then I've become an AutoCAD and 3D modeling nerd. From what I've heard, CS5 version of Photoshop practically reads your mind!

But I still use Photoshop on enhancing all my personal use photos, and Unsharp Mask is just a nice filter to make everything crisp and clear as long as you don't overdue the amount.

Now, to get some really cool effects, try using a gradient mask with some filters for varying amounts of effect on different parts of the photo. You have to use black and white gradients for a masking effect, but you can set as many gradient points between them as you wish. In other words, not just black-white, but black-white-black-white and so on.

I'm running on CS4..and I do more illustrator than photoshop. Still I'm decent at it. I can retouch photos and edit. It's the super advanced stuff that I don't know.

Spies the new tablet sitting on the desk. One of his hands reaches over to play with it, attracted by the pretty colours, his other hand smacks it away and a wrestling match starts, "Must ... not ... fiddle ... with ... others ... toys ...."

.

Hikari & Anni
So, I went online today to look up some tutorials on using the magnetic lasso.
As it turns out, when I let the thing do its job, and when i stop fighting the tablet, it works REALLY well!!!
For what I need, so far, at least.
I was able to select a person, and then minus the area where you see through their crossed legs with ease!

w00t!!

*Hugs vail and does a victory dance*

Enjoys my ice hot chocolate in the Tea house. Looks around to see who's about.

*dances through only partially clothed, Zero's theme from Megaman X blasting from a good old fashioned ghettoblaster on his shoulder*
