Holiday Swag thread!

I've had the nicest Christmas in years, save the undercooked beans and potatoes I served up for Christmas dinner.

For the first time ever me and the other half have had money to get each other gifts. He got me the locket and bracelet I said I loved at the jewellery store he dragged me into two weeks ago. I really wasn't expecting it too; he put it in a huge box and kept hinting that it was a Furby (my generations equivalent of My Little Ponies) or shoes.

I'm very, very happy. :)

These, a bunch of food thanks to USPS flat rate shipping and my wife, a Hello Kitty umbrella (thanks rida, I love it!), and cash so I can take the train overnight from Ueno to Sapporo for the snow festival in February (I better book that ticket!). But the best part was these, because LOOK!!

My sister sent me a couple charms for my charm bracelet which she gave me many years ago (a tiny brass ring like the ones you grab on the flying horses at the Vineyard, and a horse shoe crab) and my son did the sweetest thing he pre-reserved movie tickets to "Les Miserables" for yesterday and got the tickets, when we walked in the theatre he sat next to my best friend! He set it all up as a surprise. Movie was really good and cocktails/food with my 2 best guys after :D

Hey, a homecooked meal is appreciated even if it is undercooked! I had restaurant food!

Haynes Manual for the Klingon Bird-Of-Prey.

Sadly, I was probably 60/40 on being excited over the geeky fact that it was a (licensed) faux Haynes manual than I was that it was for the Bird-Of-Prey. I'm only so much of a Star Wars geek.

And even less so in the Star Trek universe, where the Klingons are real. ;)

Also, I totally got roller skates. Hell on wheels, indeed. ;)

Really nice new gym bag and gym shorts, cable knit sweater, and the Onion Book of Known Knowledge!

What'd y'all get for Epiphany?

A day with the short humans.
A bottle of wine from my best friend.

The day with short humans was best though, because they were so excited to spend the day with me. They were happy as clams to get new pajamas and one (very small) present each. We did our traditional ghetto gingerbread house buildings (graham crackers and frosting), stayed in jammies all day and watched cheesy Christmas movies, and made beef bourgunioun (however you spell it), garlic mashed potatoes and french bread for dinner. And it snowed.

I was worried that it was going to be such a small Christmas (out of necessity) that they'd be disappointed, but they weren't. Happy memories are worth more than presents, anyway. :)

Awe-freakin'-some!

(Book that ticket now! Sapporo is wicked popular from what I've heard over the years, and procrastination can be baaaaaad!)

I know, and I'm terrified I won't get a ticket! But they HAVE to be booked in person, and I've had NO time off in the past month! (I even posted about it on my blog!) I am crossing my fingers there will be solo compartments left when I get back from India...

It sounds like a perfect Christmas.

Time with loved ones was my best gift too.
That one family member being well enough to be with us for Christmas at all, let alone the whole evening, made me really happy.

Christmas is still happening, evidently. The mailman brought me a very nice handknitted sweater just now-- I would say it was cool except it's actually very warm. :) Black with this oversized Persian-looking design around the shoulders and fronts in burgundy and gold.

Good handknitting makes a person feel so loved...

I'll apologize ahead of time if this gets ooey gooey and sappy, lol.

Been seeing someone the last few months and wasn't sure what to expect. I got a black leather fur-lined play collar, a french maid outfit (not really for Christmas but he got to see it the first time for Christmas), Mickey Mouse pillow pet, Mickey Mouse headphones, a movie (getting it this weekend).

Here's the sappy part I warned about....I got to spend the two weekends before Christmas with him (one was my company Christmas party - he made me feel like the most special person in the room), as well as Christmas Eve (met his mom the weekend before and hung out with his family Christmas Eve) and am spending the next three days with him. The absolute best present, however, is having him in my life, and being told he loved me in my Christmas card. :D Honestly, if the card had been the only thing I got, that would have been fine with me. Somehow, without me realizing it, I feel in love with him the last couple of months.

Anyway, I think that's enough rambling, lol.

My mother stoked up my inner child quite effectively when she came to visit by giving me a Transformer. It was such a simple thing, but after a year of pretty chilly relations between us, the fact that she still remembers not only that I'm a sucker for robot toys, but that she still remembers what my favorite character was... it set a good mood for the rest of the day. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with feeling like a kid at Christmas. :D

I got a few little things from my guy - including a Sheldon quote t-shirt, "I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested." ROFL But the two things I thought ya'll would appreciate the most are balls and juicer.

My Christmas swag:

The usual computer games & gift cards from my kids. :)

From Tori - a USB turntable, so I can turn my vinyl collection into MP3's and
these:

And from my Leather Family, I was presented with my Master's Cover:

Best Christmas season evah!

From me, Tori got a new whistling tea kettle, and THIS:

ariseairbedmontage.jpg

I want to make her back happy.

And lemme tell you, I did a LOT of research on the air beds on the market. I finally picked Habitat Furnishings. They are a small airbed company but have been in business for many years selling futons, memory-foam and other specialty sleep items. They partnered with a company that makes water beds (both conventional platform and standalone style mattresses) so their construction is heavy duty. With only ONE (1!) Better Business Bureau complaint registered in the last 3 years, compared to the 250+ complaints registered against Comfort Select (the makers of the famous Sleep Number bed), and a 365 day (yup, 1 year!) trial period I had to give Habitat Furnishings a try.

I'll try to remember to come back and give an update on how well the bed works after we get it and get it set up. :)
