We're just seasonal, but I'd say about 35% of our staff return every year, mostly in housekeeping and front desk. The rest is filled out by locals needing a summer job, mostly high school/college kids and a lot of foreign students here on a workstudy visa (Pre-Covid, J-1 Visa program was shut down this year and will likely remain so next year.) We've also got multiple bars and restaurants on the premises, along with a plethora of other resort related services. It's a family owned place rather than a chain or franchise hotel which is typical for the island we're on, north of 67th St. It's you high end corporate hotels and condominiums, south of 67th St. it's freaking Game of Thrones where about a dozen and a half families own nearly every scrap of prime real estate and are constantly feuding over stuff no one but them cares about I started out in the front desk but now I'm in management and at one point or another I've worked in just about every job in every department from grounds to waitstaff to retail to lifeguard and everything in between.

I had to lay off about 500 people right after Labor Day and I felt awful for it because i know their unemployment got all used up last winter and there won't be many jobs available locally until next spring. The curse of living in a seasonal resort area. We changed our payment structure for all our salaried employees, it used to just be optional to get your salary spread out over 52 weeks instead of getting it all from April-November, now that's mandatory, and the owner has offered small 0% interest loans to any employees coming back in the spring.
