Hurricane Irma Party

I'm assuming you'll be serving "Hurricane" drinks during the storm. ;)

But in all seriousness, good luck to you and everyone else in Florida in the storm's path. Hope everyone stays safe!

Still not much wind and definitely no rain. Fighting the urge to travel around town checking out everything. Maybe head to my fav bar and see if Pat has cooked his famous barbecue or chili for the storm. But I know they spent a lot of time on hurricane prep so guess I'll stay home.

I sincerely hope they've overestimated the damage they expect from this storm!

We've had some heavy gusts and rain from outer bands. It's dark now so it's pretty scary to me. If shit is going to hit the fan, I want to see it coming.

As a funny, the Okie in me will never die. They called a tornado warning for us and I grabbed the camera and ran for the door with J (a Texan) hot on my heels. My mom always said "if I die in a tornado, make sure you get the pics from my camera so you get to see what got me." Thankfully that never happened but shows I come by that foolishness naturally.

We have cable and power but no wifi. WTF?!?! We've reason that everyone in the shelters have no access to cable tv so are using wifi and have crashed Comcast's system. They offered to allow non-customers access for the duration. I guess they just didn't anticipate the volume. Go figure.

We're in a curfew now and they are calling in some of the first responders. to starrynight working support/dispatch? on the west coast.

We expect to have no power in the morning so...later....until I can post again!

Wow! Blasted out of bed at 4am with a tornado alert. Damned rude awakening!
Amazingly enough we still have power but they tell us the worst hasn't hit yet. We've have a few gusts up to 71mph and sheets of rain. There's mild flooding up to the edge of our front portico but this wasn't unexpected.
I've already had a hot cup of caffeine so everything else is gravy! We'll see what the sunrise brings today.
We are still good and in a better situation than most.:cattail:

I do hope you, my Florida family and the other Florida Lit members are safe and well protected. My prayers are for all of you this morning.

Nothing here yet. Just a little rainy. We're expecting more in the afternoon but so far we're not worried. A little nervous because of the unknown but it looks like we aren't getting the worst of it. :)

Stay safe everyone!

Continued prayers for all.
I've been watching the weather channel.
Just snippets of what is happening in the rest of the state.

Woohoo! We magically have Wi-Fi again.
It's been pretty wild as far as the wind here. We've had time 70+ mph gusts with sheets of rain. At times, it's hard to see across the road to the next house. How our neighbor's decrepit fence is still standing is inexplicable.

The room is darkening again which means we have another rain band crossing over us. We're still good and thanks to all for all the good thoughts sent our way. We are starting to think a little further forward to the cleanup that will be needed in our community. It's going to take a bit to recover and we aren't even in the direct path.

Thanks for the updates! Sending safe thoughts your way.

I have friends and family in Tampa and St. Pete. Litsters and non.
Very worried about the surges.
By the time Sandy hit Long Island it was barely a Cat 1, but the surges killed our south shore.

Stay safe, Gracie. Post when you can.

Checking in. There's some large trees and branches down but from what I can see from the windows we're ok.

OMG checking in!

We're safe. I now live in a wifi-free zone so I won't stay to chat online to with anyone. Using internet makes me think I've regressed back to 1995 and dialup. I just don't have the modem sound effects.
We had surprisingly little damage. We lost some roof tiles and thanks to FPL repair attempts on Monday, the surges blew our power out along with the hot water heater fuse. We got power back after 8 hours without but cold showers happened for a couple of days until we could find a replacement fuse.
The flooding only lapped at the tires in my driveway so no trauma with flooding thank goodness.
I'm happy MeekMe checked in because I had been concerned as friends in central FL didn't fare so well. I didn't see anything about Tampa people on my way to this thread.
Can't wait to have full services restored so I can respond to everyone. Saw line repair units from Indiana and Michigan working nearby. Thanks guys!

Hugs to all who we're worried. We're very, very lucky because it could have been so much worse!:cattail:

Glad you checked in, Gracie. We managed to not lose power but the community around us is still not fully operating. Several areas here will be without power until possibly Sunday. I assumed you'd be without power so just waited to see if you posted here. Glad you're ok.

Very glad to hear that you got through the storm ok, and didn't sustain any major damage. And you're right -- it could have been a lot worse if the storm hit Florida with the same strength as it did in the Caribbean!

Good to hear you're ok too! :)

hello. I'm new to the site but, I wanted to wish the people and families going through this hurricane the best of luck with everything.

:rose: welcome to the site - that's nice of you.

Hey Meek - hey gracie - good to hear from you both!

Checking in yet again

Hi all! It may be awhile before I can post freely again. (Okay, okay, keep the applause down!)
J talked to a cable repairman last night while at work who stated our city still doesn't have Comcast back up because they can't find the break. I knew Larry Curly and Moe was running this company!

And because it's too tedious to move to the appropriate thread...

I'm drinking a killer Patron Silver margarita handmade by yours truly. I should be asleep/passed out after this, my one and only, in less than an hour.
I honestly did not intend for it to be a GoodNight Drink but merely a wind-down-from-the-week drink. J might be pleasantly surprised as there is one waiting in the fridge for his end of shift at 12:30. ;)

Thanks for the pms but again-will answer when I'm no longer using what is obviously dial-up connection. LOL
