As a casual reader, I must say that my least favorite M/S trope is where the son becomes a bull alpha-male/man-of-the-house type character. A better angle in my opinion is when the Dad is more a voyeur, of which can be split into one of three categories.

1) where the mother and son are completely oblivious that they are being watched

2) where the mother is aware they are being watched but the son isn't

and 3) where the son is aware they are being watched but the mother isn't

I'm with Lovecraft on this one, though -- I'm not into cuckold humiliation. It would have to be with the active participation/enjoyment of the father. The "good time for all" concept.

In mine Dad participated quite a bit, but them left them alone for a while. Plan was to keep him in the picture, but not as often as Mom needed attention.

Actually, some of my favorite stories are where Mom's too needy for Dad to handle (or maybe to be left alone while Dad travels for whatever reason). So, son is invited in to keep mom on balance.

I've sort of done it, but not with the dad as a full cuck, more like the dad has an incest fantasy or did incest himself. Doing it like that avoids a lot of backlash.

For example, dad is going on a trip and mom writes a letter or emails explaining why she's doing that with the son... and it's revealed dad thinks it's hot because he did that with his mom before.

That works.

Another way to avoid backlash is if mom has a compelling reason. One of my all time favorites is With Mom Helps where parents try to help son avoid being bad, but mom goes the extra mile and strokes him.

I have seen a lot of negative comments on other stories where dad is a full blown cuck.

Eh, it's really up to you. Some readers (and writers) prefer to leave the father out of it, so you'd have plenty of people who prefer the way you currently have it set up.

Yeah I've received a couple comments that seem to be complaining about the father being cuckolded. To which my reply is mostly 'yeah welcome to the mother/son section of the incest subgenre'. (Yeah obviously it's totally possible and perhaps more plausible for a single mother to bang her son, but that doesn't feel quite as 'naughty' to me so I won't be writing that.)

But count me among those who don't like see mom breaking up with dad so she can have son...or worse...cucking him. For me, it ruins the potentially loving atmosphere of the connection between mom and son.
