I'm with you on how irksome the 1-bombing is, primarily because thanks to trolls and their malignant 1-bombs, I'll never objectively know how my story SHOULD rate. That bothers me.

I assume many of you also anonymous messages from trolls that inform me that they take pleasure in tanking my scores. They get pretty insufferable, and the illiterate flame reviews pile up. I get PM's from sane readers of my stories, staying that some of the anonymous reviews upset them because they're so vicious and hateful. A recent one called for the genocide of indigenous Americans and brutalizing black people. I reported it, of course, but I have no idea what happened.


I understand getting tired of 1-bombs.
I wish you could turn off anonymous reviews specifically.

Unless you mean on an individual story basis. There's only a setting for all or nothing on anonymous comments, across the whole of your story file. You can only choose to have all feedback or none on a story by story basis.

Yep, and for my stories, I weed the garden and delete any offensive comments or outright trolling. I don’t dignify those with a response. They pop up. They’re gone and to be honest I don’t think most of them even notice. The one stars, I’m like, whatever. After three and a half entire years here I treat them as background noise.

My practice too. They offer nothing constructive to anyone and are just some sad person's way of lashing out at the world w/o risk. (but, to be honest; I have wondered for the last year or so just how many "russian trolls" are right here stirring up animus too...tell me I'm okay and not taking life too seriously )

Ahhh... so good to read some of this. The last post here was weeks ago, but I'm hoping this thread is still active.

My first submission (after years of just reading) was badly beaten up by "Anonymous" comments and sits with a rating below 3. Is the story really that bad? I have a second chapter close to completion, but....?

Did I make a mistake by allowing Anonymous comments?

Do you veteran authors have some tips about how I should be evaluating the reception to this first story? I'm not submitting in any sense of competitiveness, but certainly don't want to waste my time (or others) if my stories only appeal to me, and/or unwelcome with others.

Your mistake was to post it in Loving Wives. Try Erotic Couplings or Group next time, for a friendlier reception. You inadvertently stepped into a shark tank - LW is a unique and special place, with fierce and vocal tribes. On a quick skim, and a read of your comments, I think you came off lightly.
