If my vote counts for anything..I think you should choose neonatology. My godson was a preemie (2 pounds and 5 ounces) and the nurses and doctors that took care of him in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit have my full respect and gratitude. I'm sure that job would be difficult to bear with all the opportunity it presents for emotional attachment, but I can't imagine the amount of joy it would bring to you seeing one of your "mini patients" go home healthy.

SS... your vote DOES count! Thanks for the input.

You are right, it so REALLY hard not to get emotionally attatched, and I probably won't succeed in not doing so at least to some degree... but I know I can handle it.

I have spent countless hours in the NICU for different reasons and it was an environment that I found myself wanting to feel more "helpful" in (for lack of a better description).
I am currently seeking volunteer opportunities at nearby hospitals... but for now I will keep teaching cpr ... I figure, until I can send my own patients home ... it will have to suffice!

Anyway, gosh, thank you so much for your encouraging post!
It all seems so far away, but it is reading and hearing things like that that really help keep me going!

Thank you!

MM ~

Take all the time you need. I like it slow. And FYI, I have a bellybutton fetish, so take your time when you get there!

Jade~

I am sure you will excel at whatever you choose to do.
The most important thing is to choose something that makes you happy regardless to what it is or what others may think about it. I catch alot of flack from people for doing the work I do, but I am eager to get up in the morning and go to work, so that makes it all worthwhile to me!

I am a Surgical PA and work with a team of cardiothoraic surgeons. I have my MS and have been working with the team for two years now. We manage the pre op adm work up and the post op care of all our open heart population. Our patient population tend to be high risk and post op care is both challenging and frightening at times. I wouldn't think of doing something different at this point in my career.

I never seem to be able to finish any course of study without interruptions, so I'm studying art and anything else that strikes my fancy. I imagine I'll eventually gather enough credits for a fine arts degree, but I'm in no hurry.

It makes my head hurt, and I believe that the very act of setting a definite goal will bring on the next disaster.

Yes, exactly! I apply that to every part of my life. Every time I have made plans, something has happened to ruin them. Only the most short term plans seem to make it.

hmm

Whats happening under here? ~~looks under southerns desk~~
Oh My Goodness! ummm any of you need a helping hand??
surely it doesn't take that many people to find a contact lense..

Back on the topic.. we sure do have our fair share of skills around here. Makes me think I should go back to what I was originally trained in. Before my job at Telecom I worked in a new Television station. (new as in very small, just starting up to broadcast) I worked there for three and a half years and in that time did everything from camera work to sound work and acting (as an extra). My specialty was Editor, and I was the top one they had, and I lectured on the subject for the media school they ran. I loved that job. If only they paid me.. it was a Christian charitable trust, who wern't charitable to the workers. The idea was that God would provide. I left very disilusioned (sp?) and in $10,000 debt. sigh.. meanwhile one of the shows I edited is still being shown 4 times a day, as are the commercials, promotional videos, and other projects . I should get royalties or something!!

Hey Southern, can I sue them? Oh.. your eyes are closed did it hurt when that contact fell out?? :D

I'm a political consultant/lobbyist and I specialise in health politics. Lasher might find that quite funny. I can't say sex has any role to play in my professional world which is why I undoubtedly spend so much of my working day in this site talking about ... er politics. I think I might have to rethink a few things...

Was someone talking?

Sorry...lost all sense of time there...

Depends on what type (if any) contract you had with them. If there was nothing in writing...probably not. And would you really want to be labeled "That girl who sued the Christian Network..kinda like suing God, no?" LMAO

Contact lens...ummm...yeah. thats what they are all doing under there. They need more help I'm sure.

Darn those geoscientists sure know how to "look hard" for stuff!

I'm into drugs. You know, the really good stuff.

I work for a large drug store chain to feed people's habit. Unfortunately, with the change of political climate, I can no longer ask the ladies if they want to test their birth control pills.

And yeah, we sell tons of Viagra.

Class Dismissed

I took another ceramics course this summer; I got an A in it last spring, but I wanted more of the technical stuff before I went on.

I had the prof from hell (he throws things -- clay, insulated gloves, bisqueware, tantrums) and almost began to hate clay. However -- my pieces came out well, I did learn a lot of the technical stuff, and I got a B from the Monster.

I could use a rest, but I got an idea for a fantastic porcelain screen . . .

Say Creamy Lady,

Did you make one of those cups that looks like a boob, or anyother piece of anatomy?

The amazing things you can do with clay, both before and after it gets hard.

Nothing anatomically correct, alas. I prefer warm, living flesh to cold porcelain. ;-)

Ahhh Creamy,

You're making my living flesh warm. Nothing better than to get "fired" up.

High fire or low fire? High fire is about 2350 degrees Fahrenheit.

And there's plenty of room in a kiln . . . :)

SS is all tied up and no one invited me? :(

I'm an auto insurance agent. Not incredibly exciting, but I'm making quite a pretty penny and am probably going to be promoted to supervisor soon(*knock on wood*). It isn't what I want to be doing with my life, but the profit sharing every February is VERY nice. I'm going to school part time to finish my degree. I want to eventually be a middle school math teacher when I "grow up". I guess I'm a big dork all around. But definitely a HUGE perv. My dad always said I'd make a fantastic lawyer, usually because I was very effective at arguing with him and making contracts for certain things I wanted.

Hi, i'm the Director of Marketing for a medium sized software company. Certainly not as a noble a profession as the surgeons in the crowd, some might say its not even as noble as the lawers in the crowd (cringe shudder feel kinda' slimy) but hell it pays the bills and my hands are still soft from a lifetime of avoiding manual labor.

Taking Care Of Bizzniss

I'm an RMN (Registered Mental Nurse) but I've never actually worked as a Staff Nurse. Immediately after I graduated in 1995 I left to work for my brother's music magazine. When that folded I went back to college to study Media. I left just before the end of the course (early '97) when my band got signed up. That lasted 2 and a half years. Now I'm in limbo somewhere between being a musician and being unemployed - which explains my daily presence on the BB. Haha

I may go back to being a psychiatric nurse one day - it was stressful but highly rewarding. For the time-being though I'm still dreaming of living the fantasy r 'n' r lifestyle once more. I refuse to drag my head down from the clouds.

So, please excuse me while I touch the sky....

Slimy?

Ex~

I am not in the least bit slimy.....right now. If you care to make it so...well, that's another story! ;)

I don't have a fancy job like a lot of you, actually I don't have a job at all right now. LOL When I am working, though, I have a job that maybe I don't love, but I do like very much. I develop film! I know, it doesn't sound like very much, but there is something very satisfying about taking a small film canister and turning it into something pictures that these people will treasure and share with the people that they love! I get a lot of satisfaction out of that, and at the end of the day, there is something tangible that I can point to and say "Look at what I did. I made somebody happy."

Sorry to get all mushy! LOL
