Awe... thank you!!
SS... your vote DOES count! Thanks for the input.
You are right, it so REALLY hard not to get emotionally attatched, and I probably won't succeed in not doing so at least to some degree... but I know I can handle it.
I have spent countless hours in the NICU for different reasons and it was an environment that I found myself wanting to feel more "helpful" in (for lack of a better description).
I am currently seeking volunteer opportunities at nearby hospitals... but for now I will keep teaching cpr ... I figure, until I can send my own patients home ... it will have to suffice!
Anyway, gosh, thank you so much for your encouraging post!
It all seems so far away, but it is reading and hearing things like that that really help keep me going!
Thank you!

If my vote counts for anything..I think you should choose neonatology. My godson was a preemie (2 pounds and 5 ounces) and the nurses and doctors that took care of him in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit have my full respect and gratitude. I'm sure that job would be difficult to bear with all the opportunity it presents for emotional attachment, but I can't imagine the amount of joy it would bring to you seeing one of your "mini patients" go home healthy.
