Is this typical?

What's "HIPA" and why is it a joke?

Thank you, Raidho, for taking the time to explain this.

Mind if I PM you with a couple of questions? Not for advice, just the why and how of something.

Sure, I'll be happy to answer if I can.

To clarify the HIPA's a joke thing : The laws themselves are not : We're trained on how to be privacy-conscious. But implementation is another thing.

It's not unusual to have lost patients or guests wandering around the "employees only" sections of the ER. Charts are out, labels are out. That's a practical issue, though, not really an ill-intentioned one. I personally get pissed off when I'm in the middle of keying charges, with the patient's chart history, diagnosis, etc., out in full view, and nurses will plop patients in my office for discharge, regardless of the fact that I have another patient's information on my screen, and it's not something I can simply "turn off." The nurses have been told not to do that, but we're grunts...nurses can really do no wrong in the hospital I work at. We're so short staffed, so many things are overlooked.

Ditto here. I wonder though, and this is total speculation, but could this be an attempt to stop Medicaid or insurance fraud? I can't think of any other reason.

It is here in NL......
We have to show some ID too in some cases (mainly at hospital and so)
