<snip> People engage in a huge variety of kinks, the notion that they wouldn't make those safety assessments for themselves is insulting. <snip>

No matter any previous level of trust, that would get the Safe Word invoked and once clear, authorities would be notified and a possible arrest warrant issued.
So I'd really think deeply as to why you feel drawn to it. Any sign of mental illness or self harming tendencies, and good professional will walk away quick.
I can only speak for myself, but I am perfectly capable of making decisions on which kinks I participate in,and why, by myself.
Aftercare is a matter of personal need, or not, not everyone wishes to be in receipt of it, which is an individuals choice.
I'm all for safety in kink, but will not be a part of policing the kinks of others.
People who seem to enjoy this probably need help. Serious help. If I were family or a close friend, I'd probably be willing to sign the commitment papers.
There are over two hundred recognised types of mental illness. Some of them are relevant to knife play. Some are not. Talking about "mental illness" as a blanket disqualifier is ignorant and harmful.
Well, I am.
And I'm not.

Bless.
Shall I headpat you now, or later?
Or is that too kinky for you?
I have engaged in knife play. Not cutting of skin but definitely have had clothing (including panties) cut off...felt the cold, metal on my nipples and pussy. Sexy.
I mean...not sure what the big deal is. I think we can just assume, here in the bdsm forum, that we are speaking of consensual, safe play...if it wasn't consensual, safe play it wouldn't be bdsm it would be something else.
And remember, presentation of a deadly weapon is automatic justification for the other party to defend themselves, up to and including your death.
I have participated, and I wouldn't recommend it.
If it is your thing, no judgment will ever come from me. But I learned quickly how badly it can go wrong.
I wouldn't do it with anyone other than a professional Master. And even then, take it slowly. It's not a 'hey can I hire you for this?' type of one-session only experience. And any professional worth their fee will interview you for your reasons for wanting to try it. So I'd really think deeply as to why you feel drawn to it. Any sign of mental illness or self harming tendencies, and good professional will walk away quick. So I'd stress you come to understand why you wish to participate in such play before continuing.
I'd also stress aftercare in such play.
And please, please, please don't compromise your safety...mental/emotional/physical.
Have you reported this thread yet, jaFO?
Good lord.

This.
It's on my to-do list.
:nods enthusiastically:
Can someone who's done it pretty please tell us what it's like?
Come sit with me and listen!
*shares my chocolate pudding*
It's like a sharp intake of breath that releases as a shaky sigh.
Reminds me of;
Being bound, restrained, cuffed, and slowly, piece by piece, having your clothing cut off your body...
...DEFINITELY deserves a post of it's own. But it's almost a gateway drug. That's how we started.
I just wish she started with a cheaper shirt, lol.

*raises hand*
To me it really is more about how scary it is, how cold, smooth and demanding the metal feels on my skin, how much trust it requires, how still I need to be.
I've been scraped with the tip of a knife, but never really participated in any significant cutting with more than a few drops of blood present. I don't think I'd be into cutting.
I've also had clothing cut off of me with a knife and that's a thrill of its own.
