List of socially progressive cities

Ann Arbor is nice, and Ferndale, Michigan is even better. That's where I've been attending (sort of) a transgendered support group Tuesday nights at the GLBT support center they have downtown. This is also where PrideFest was held - they locked down the entire downtown area for it.

All in all, on that list, I'm not surprised to see Detroit as #1. I feel spoiled.

Honestly I'm quite partial to good old SF (having grown up here my whole life) and you really see everyone here ... Goths, punks, gangsters, artists, old people walking their dogs, teens wearing leather with foot-long neon pink mohawks, and everyone accepts everyone for who they are. Especially at the Haight & Ashbury (at the heart of the hippie "peace and love" movement in the 70s), everyone rides public transportation and just mind are wholly unjudgmental people, I myself am bi, and I think that SF is just great.

Other than that Portland, OR and Seattle, WA should be good bets, as well. Not so sure about about Key West but Orlando, FL is a tolerant place, as well.

As far as foreign countries go (from where I've been) I might suggest Paris or Tokyo (they have a very rebellious teen culture there, as well).

Other than that, good luck sweetie, and I hope you find the right place for you. =) Just probably not in the South or in old-fashioned Italy lol :p
