Lit Needs A Welcome Mat

Brilliant!

I SAY BRILLIANT!

And then tag their (fins, dangling appendages, whatever) and track them. Can we tax this?

If you make money out of this, you know you have to share the proceeds with me, do you? :D

but I don't like wearing a big red tag with a number on it.....oh wait I already do...*pokes at # of posts* It still hurts :(

Don't worry, soon enough your cherry will be fully popped. ;)

Catch and Release

Hey, maybe Virgin oil can be sold as an additive to gas... (thinking)

Smaller than mine, still. Keep in mind, the Queen always gets the best share of everything. :p

Thinking...

45% of 20 billion... Minus the usual bills, payments to charity to make myself appear compassionate, TV ads defending my sudden wealth, $3 donation to the presidential fund on my last tax return, almost 8.5 billion left...

Oh, buying gas to go to work... Guess I'm broke now !!

LadyC, Presenting WW48

For reasons I won't share here, LadyC has had a profound impact on my life. The same is true for White Wave 48 (WW48).

And I would enjoy nothing more than for them to be friends and mentors.

AS, we know you already are compassionate without all those payments to charity!

Hi LadyCibelle. I'm introducing myself to you in a proper manner here. I do edit for Lit - a steady stream - but the dear, compassionate AS adopts some of my more challenging writers for me. As you know he's great with those who need quite a bit of guidance from the very beginning, and I thank him for being there with the right advice for them as well as the time and patience to give it.

Hello WW48 and welcome to my humble abode. :rose:

With a reference from AS and reading what you've said about someone I consider a dear friend of mine, I cannot help but hope we can become better acquainted with one another.

Also, I quite agree with your characterization of AS, he's quite good at what he does and the service he gives to those fledging writers will serve them well....if only they listen to his teaching.

I admire someone who can edit for new writers. I lose patience way too quickly with them. I had one send me a "story," and I never could figure out the point to it. There wasn't really any story, and the dialogue was so stilted I kept picturing blowup dolls speaking. I finally had to tell the poor guy that I couldn't help him. I refrained from telling him that the best thing he could do with his "story" was scrap it, and try it again - it was beyond editing.

The only new writer I had any luck with was LadyC, but then, she's the exception that makes the rule, I think. :)

Nahh I'm no exception. I simply listened to what you were teaching me. I didn't have a big head to start with, I knew I needed help, knew if I wanted to do something palatable I needed to listen and learn from the best.

It's not always easy to be starting from the bottom but in my case it was really rewarding.

A Bit Tardy...

Thanks much, CC. Surprisingly, the sub is headed for a low vote, my incest stories usually do well. Ah well. Maybe my "How-To" is haunting me ??

And "somebody" sent a hopeful writer "my way", which is okay, but with "7 chapters" ?

Pure evil!

Hoping they're short!

Speaking of new writers, I'm still putting myself in that category in terms of Lit.

This may be a little off the track, cloudy, but you did inspire me to write a non-erotic newby story and I need to ask your permission to quote or paraphrase a few of your words here and there.

Sure, go ahead, even though I'm pretty sure the ones you're going to use probably didn't come from one of my finest moments. :D

Had to laugh out loud when I read that.

Being the lurker and researcher I am, I have actually checked for all things interesting back there in a few of your posts, but became exhausted after a while and almost needed to call in a resuscitation team with high tech equipment.

The A1 sauce speech is my personal fave, within my very limited personal experience of course, but if you have any others you'd like to offer, I'm here to receive.

The story is not complex - an exploration of the creative process, cause and effect, argument and such like. Set in a university. All very exciting stuff in the eyes of the average reader to be sure.

You went through my posts?

Bless you...that's a lot of dreck to read through. As far as any others go...I wouldn't know where to point you, honestly. I'm probably funniest when I'm not trying to be.

That's truly when you're at your best...in a any area. :rose:

I know what you mean, Cloudy. It does take patience, and not all people have that. I'm working with a few new ones, and it will take many interactions to "inspire" them to write dialogue and sizzle in the sex. But when they blossom... so inspirational ("I" did "that" ??)

We're a select few. I admire those who know they're not that kind, because they offer other skills. We all have differing skills for a reason. We're all wired different ways.

And I enjoy what I do.

Back To The Thread Topic

I realize this is 'back to the beginning' so to speak, but could a Welcome Mat be beneficial to Lit?

I don't mean to step on toes, call it a 'Water Cooler' or whatever.

Regardless of the name, in my humble opinion it should be a forum which is obvious to support new people, and not contained within another forum. LadyC, you know I have much love and respect for you, but how many newbies are likely to find "Water Cooler" in the Editor forum? Hell, I've been on Lit for 2 year before you told me about it, and then I even screwed it up.

In my humble opinion Lit needs an obviously named place where newbies can go to and 'report in', so to speak. And be appropriately tagged <LOL> And complain, if need be. And better yet, get answers, or help.

My interests are pure at heart, and I know that you know that. I have voiced my ideas in the past that are aesthetically pleasing and nearly impossible to incorporate, but I really believe in this one, and it's possible.

Okay, I've made my speech, spoken my mind, et al.

...
That would be useful for the newbies, subject to two provisos:

1 It would need to be staffed by people who really know the answers to newbie questions, and that means, in practical terms, members of the Lit staff.

2 It would need to be organised to attract the newbies' attention.

Given that, it could be useful. However, we already have extensive FAQ facilities here which do not seem to work, because newbies keep on asking the same questions to which an appropriate, if churlish, answer would be "Please read the F.A.Q." or more specifically for THE question (MG's own) "Please read this".

Wishful Thinking

When I started this thread I just wanted to generate some thoughtful consideration about the possibility of change for the better. My ideas seem always to be idealistic by nature and unattainable in practicality, like Editor Day and others. But I find it enjoyable to explore the concepts regardless, and appreciate everyone's input.

And if the decision was made to add a new forum, a newbie forum would likely be best to appear on the top of the alphabetical list, and using words like "Newbie" or "Virgin" would place them on the bottom. So maybe "A Welcome Mat" would work best.

Yeah, in a perfect world. But it's been fun. Thanks, everyone.
