I'm a total newbie to these boards but I felt I had to put my two cents in on this topic and bring people's attention to Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel's Dart." I've been into fantasy novels since I was twelve but this is the first fantasy novel I've read where the plot hinged mainly on the main character's submissive sexual preferences.

You all should go out and buy a copy of this book and its sequel. In fact, it's one of the main reasons I've recently become interested in BDSM. It really turned me on.

I saw a brand-new New Zealand import film tonight, a film called Rain.

I thought it was totally fascinating that the protagonist, a 13 or 14 year old girl was so obviously a Domme-in-the-making.

This was a fabulous film.
And it was horrible.
And it was remarkable.
And it was godawful.

It had a total Domme-in-bud, though, as that main character, that just can't be denied.

I think it my duty to warn the parents of young kids, though, that this film might be very hard to watch.

Tonight I saw "Videodrome." Its premise is that a certain group of people have figured out a way to encode a hallucinogenic/hypnotic sort of signal into a video clip. Once a person watches it, s/he becomes easily led by the people who exposed him/her to it.

The protagonist, a producer at a small TV station that specializes in porn and action flicks, is exposed to this signal via a 53-second clip of S&M/snuff footage. He experiments a little with real-life sadism as well, although it's hard to be sure that he's not hallucinating (which he does frequently, throughout the film). Anyway, the idea is that exposure to this sort of sexually appealing violence makes his brain more receptive to being controlled by Videodrome.

Umm...

There is also some interesting "man being raped by a videocassette" imagery.

What I wonder is whether this belief (S&M leads to susceptibility to violent suggestions) is common in our culture. Is it accurate, do you think?

well, i didn't see her stuff listed anywhere else in the thread so I'll throw out Laura K. Hamiltons Anita Blake novels.

What starts out in the first book as local good girl gets involved with vampires and werewolves turns into "Anita Blake, Leather Whore" by book 5, complete with her having a subbie were leopard at her beck and call and her cutting bad guys down with some serious fire power. I'm thinking maybe Hamilton has some sex issues she's working out in her books...there pretty good tho.
