missing votes?

... more votes taken off today but the rating has gone up a notch or two so I guess for me it's working in my benefit.

How do you know you are in someone's favourites list? And I confess, sometimes I add to favourites and not vote because I don't have time to read all of it right away and don't want to loose it.

You'd have to know who it was you were wondering about. If you click on a poster's profile off the main menu, I think who they have picked as favorites are identified there.

Okay, I lost some too, now. It hasn't affected my ratings but it IS kinda sad. I'm a little confused, though, because I wonder if I'm not looking at the correct number.

I looked at Dark's tallies and noted that the Non-human votes were pretty high. Is this common for that category? It seems like I have a few, but now I wonder if I'm doing all that well for the category after all....

Perhaps I'll experiment and post a romance I've been working on...

Both of my Non-Human stories thusfar have been contest entries. Those always get more votes than a standard day-to-day story. Don't forget the *s on the list ;)

You can expect to get more on a non-human story than say Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Horror, Humor, Letters, How-To, Chain, Reviews, Novels, Celebrity, and any other low-readership cat that I'm forgetting. Cats like Romance, Erotic Couplings, Group, etc. will always outstrip them, though. The closer to the mainstream you get, the more views/votes.

Then, there's the opposite extreme. The farther into taboo you get, the more views/votes ( thus incest, non-con, LW ) you'll get, above and beyond even the mainstream cats.

The longer you're here, and the more frequently you post new stories, the more your vote totals will go up. Getting your name out there on a regular basis is the key to building a readership base.

It would be nice to know how many times you'd been "favourited".

For the top 250 "favorite" Lit. authors, all you need to do is click on "sneak peek" on the home page and you get an updating number of times you've been designated a favorite by a reader. I presume only one vote by each registers. This page also gives the top "favorite" individual stories--but just a short listing of those. If you're not in the top 250, though, I guess you are out of luck on what your number is until you make the list.

If I don't get off my ass and start releasing some new stuff as Dark, I'm going to fall right off the bottom of the list. I'm in the lower 5% as it is, and barely clinging to that *laugh*
