OMG that is crazy!
So what? Is it just some of the southern states? Is it more liberal the further north you go?
We have sex toys readily available here. In fact, buying online is just a pain in the butt. Almost every little hick town has at least one sex shop (or TradeMe is great - NZ's version of Ebay).
Our largest sex shops advertise on TV after 9.30pm, and there was recently a TV special about the man who almost single handedly keeps our adult toy/movie industry ticking over. Prostitution was decriminalised a couple of years back.
However, all of this still doesn't mean I can get a feeldoe in this country...bah!
