Name the wife or not?

If you're open to some advice from someone who's published a few 2P POV stories, and has gone from "Never!" to "Everyone should give it a try at least once"...
Someone over in the 750 Word story thread has suggested the idea of the same story from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person point of view, which has got me seriously intrigued.

I'm a real fan of close third (probably my go-to pov); have often written first person (including the bugaboo of lapsing into present tense during intense sex scenes - which I mostly do to annoy @SimonDoom - I still refuse to "fix" that story, because he's the only fucker who's commented - but I've never tried proper second person pov.

So, if I get my shit together, that's 3 x 750 Word stories for the 2026 Anthology, which has the added bonus of giving @AwkwardlySet the shits, because I know he loathes those short stories cluttering up the Lit stories feed!

All I can say is that if you're trying to piss off both me AND @AwkwardlySet , you've got your bases covered with bear-poking. Vaya con Dios.

I would name the wife. Presumably, you're already not naming the "you"/POV character. By naming the wife you give her more identity. She becomes more of a person and not just a type. It's likely that "you" thinks of her by her name rather than just "she," so using her name makes sense to me.

I so hate second person.

You so hate second person. AlohaDave pointedly notes this fact and Simon chimes in with an emoji, and you wonder, "Don't these guys have anything better to do?" But you've been here long enough that you know the answer to that question, almost certainly, is "No." You sigh and roll your eyes and think that perhaps you should spend less time on silly thread posts and more time writing stories. But the siren call of AH absurdity is too strong to resist, and your fingers linger over the keys to type in yet another response.

Except that "you" isn't (aren't?) the narrator.

Maybe it is the case that the omniscient 3°p narrator, narrating to "you," the husband, knows everything "you" know about her. And maybe it's the case that this strange, impersonal, out-of-universe narrator (surprise! It's really the author! Don't overthink it!) would "talk" the way the husband talks to himself about her.

Or maybe it's not. There is a choice to make, here, regarding how the narrator would talk.

Do any of them make sense? Not to me they don't, but each can make just as much sense as the other. So, OP might as well just pick what they want to do. They're the narrator, after all.

And if they insist that they aren't, then, they're free to write that narrator's voice the way they want. If the narrator isn't the author, then it's a character. One whom the author can design.

Yes, yes, I do.

That is an intereting idea!

And i appreciate everyone's input, pro and con, on 2p. might try rewriting it as 1p and see how i like that. i also need to read some more 2p erotica...

But, as an encouragement, I've read two of your stories now, and I thought they were fun AF. I wasn't always sure what the sexy part was, but the writing was good. So, if you do end up making the 2P story, I'm sure it'll be fun.

thank you!! i always thought they'd be boring for non-fetishists so i'm glad you liked them!

Sounds like a underclass assignment. There could be one good story in there, it's very hard to imagine that all three could turn out any good.

I agree. That's what's got me intrigued, and with only 750 x 3 words, a bit of a challenge in an idle moment.
