I will agree to disagree but I'm not going to argue my case. Granted I'm not a professional editor, just a "12th grade editor" as you have said in the past. And although you may have meant it to be degrading to me, I fully agree with your assessment.

That having been said, I do believe that I do improve stories and make them more palatable for the readers when they are sent to me before publication as opposed to being submitted "as is". I don't have your skills but the basics I know.

Maybe I'm not quite sure which editors you feel are unqualified, other than the obvious.

Several years ago I propsed to LadyC that an editing test be required, but she scoffed at that. I have since become less idealistic.

I know what you mean SR, but save your proverbial breath.

Just a thought.

To be clearer.....when you proposed that "editing test", LadyC did not scoff at the idea. What LadyC said was that your idea albeit simplistic wasn't too bad. What LadyC added was that such a test would be almost impossible to do and that Laurel would never go for something like that. She, LadyC, further added that you were welcome to get in touch with Laurel and "pitch" your idea to her, LadyC also said that she was almost 100% sure that Laurel would laugh at your idea.

LadyC didn't scoff at your idea, LadyC hasn't done or said half the shit you sometimes say that she did or said. LadyC has always been the first one to defend you when people were piling up on you, she's always been the one to tell others to give you a chance, to wait and see what a great person you were.

LadyC is getting quite tired of being put in the middle of your shit and being used as a mouthpiece when you have something mean/nasty to say to someone.

Now LadyC is wondering if she shouldn't cut her losses with you and simply let people say or do whatever they want when it comes to you. To put it in plain English.....I am sick and tired of you. Sick and tired of you putting words and/or intentions into my mouth. Make sure you know what the fuck you're talking about before putting my name on it and say..."oh well it's not me it's LadyC who did this or that".

Grow the fuck up, John; be a man and stand on your own two feet. I am not a pillar and I don't feel like holding you together any longer.

I used to think you were a friend, distant friend but friend nonetheless. Now, I'm not so sure any more. Friends don't turn on their friend and invent shit about them. I think I'll sign off on our friendship, it's not worth the pain and the hurt.

And here I thought I was being diplomatic. I'm sure it's no secret that I have been a heavy drinker which has resulted in rants of which I am ashamed. Recent negative results in my health have necessitated my abstinence, so I felt confident that I could return to the forum and cause no ruckus.

Guess not.

LadyC, I was relying upon my memories of events which occurred several years and many brain cells ago. It was not my intention to upset you. I was merely sharing my experience with SR that an editor test could not be done. I meant no disrespect.

I actually thought, at the time, that the response was both timely and respectful and I was rather proud that it hadn't sank into a rant.

You have said otherwise. Point taken.

I can only control my response, not yours. You have made yours known already. I just wanted to have an opportunity to explain mine.

It seems that drunk or sober I am incapable of correctly relating what I am thinking. So I think I shall quit this place to avoid further controversy.

I'll continue to write chapters of existing stories... maybe.

I am about to repost my Castle Keep series here in chapters. It was a 13-chapter series that was published. The publisher's boat sank. Felt I should re-post at Lit. I have separated it into 14 chapters.

Could always use another set of eyes but I have confidence in the story. Your choice.

I think SR has scared them all away. What really irks me is that SR goes on and on about how much money he makes doing professional editing, takes pot-shots at the rest of us, makes mistakes himself he doesn't own up to (referring to my PM about your mistake-riddled contest entry SR), and then says we're not qualified to edit while he does no editing of stories on his own.

In a nutshell SR is an anti-editor. Just like Obama he makes a lot of noise but gets nothing accomplished.

Time for a change.

Come on, this has to be getting old.

SR does not go on about how much money he makes as an editor, at least not in the threads I read. I don't think he has any reason to. And the truth is there is a difference between a professional editor with training and experience, and those who are not, like me. He has always owned up to making mistakes, admitting they are there even though his stories (usually published elsewhere before posted here) have been edited.

He does edit stories, just not people who post here, or not many. I think he is a bit harsh on the editing thing. Reminds of people with MDs who don't like to see people with PhDs called "Doctor." Personally I think most of us understand the difference between professional-E Editing such as SR does and the little-e editing the rest of us do.

And I won't touch the political stuff.
 
He's like a tick. No matter how much you scratch it still itches. I'm still "tick"ed off how he feels he is so much better than every other editor, then doesn't edit. Sort of a "king of the hill" mentality. I'm "too good" to stoop so low as to volunteer my time to edit a story, and yet criticizes those who do. Just pisses me off. And when I want to vent this is what I prefer to vent about.

I stay away from the forum for the most part but I do gravitate back here every once in a while, just to let SR know I'm still alive.

Okay PL, good to know you're an SR fan;)
