Need minor help with finding a major enough music group.

He the MC is happy. He looks over at his wife who is sort of dancing or swaying to the music living that perfect moment in life. He is not dancing with her. She is just dancing or bopping to the music watching the concert in her own happy little world loving the moment. She feels his eyes on her, looks over at him, smiles then continues her little dance and fade out the final scene of the chapter.
I liked that a lot. Lovely.

Great minds think alike. There were 3 concerts, one each night as Monday is a holiday from work. The Eagles were the first night. Luke Combs was the second night as it was not going to be all the same genres. I'm stuck on the third night as I explained above.
Get a lady in there. Someone like Pink or Lady Gaga

Rather dislike those two but interesting point. Concert 1 and 2 are male.

Something middling between country-pop-rock...

Or switch concert 2 to Faith Hill...

Hmmm

(Concert 1 is written but 2 only outlined so little effort lost. concert 3 is the one in this thread.

Many thanks everyone!

I'm going to say some posters on the AH have terrible taste in music.

But then I'm not going to say which ones...

T
"The Lumineers." Or perhaps, "The revivalists?"
Some left of centre bands that might work. "Brandi Carlisle." "Larkin Poe."

Faith Hill would work for me but I thought a different genre than the others was something that you were seeking.

Go with the classics. I'd choose The Eagles. Large enough repertoire that you have plenty f songs to choose from. They're only doing Vegas now,but depending on your timeline could still work and I'm pretty sure everybody in both the US and UK knows who they are. Maybe 'Desperado' for the song.
People dance to the Eagles?

Depending on the song, absolutely. Where I grew up, we'd two-step to about anything. :)
From the OP's description, it was more of a swaying thing than a dancing thing, so...

I guess I just don’t spend enough time around white people anymore.

Well, now you all did it! Grrr. Had to redo the whole section of the chapter.

Concert 1. Retro. I scrapped my Eagles concert and changed to Cheap Trick as a bit more manageable and still very well known. Retro but large catalog and still played to this day. Looking for a hook or something to highlight it but I'll figure it out. credit Kelliezgirl

Concert 2. Leaning a bit more newish and not older retro. I hadn't thought of Arcade Fire but added it to the list of the newer but not today pop bands listed. This will likely be from the list you have all been helping me with.

Concert 3. Country. Sometimes a scene hits me like a freight train so credit to Hord Holm for Faith Hill. Final concert. Faith Hill. Final song. Breathe. This rough draft hit me like a freight train. Scenes come and go and most are not this intense, but I really like the following as an end for a chapter.

*******
blah blah blah lead in. Rough draft follows.

Her eyes were sparkling with the reflected light coming from the stage as I looked at Jennifer kind of dancing and swaying with happiness that showed in every part of her face as she happily mouthed the words to Breathe. She felt my eyes upon her and she looked at me then came to the line she mouthed directly to me, ‘Closer than I've ever felt before’. Her eyes, her sparkling eyes, reflected her love for me.

She pecked my cheek then faced forward again, living her own perfect moment, bopping to the music until the song faded and the concert ended.

The perfect time.

The perfect moment.

Perfect Jennifer.

xxxother word for mouthedxxx
xxxcheek peck? hand-heart??? Other gesture?xxx

*******

Thank you all. So concert 2 is the one still in the air and thanks for some great ideas and will probably go with one of the more current suggestions.

I have given this some thought and I believe the correct answer is Arcade Fire.
Arcade Fire were probably the best performing band in 2020 (except for some smaller bands who trade solely on their intimate live performances rather than headlining), although slightly past their peak. Some danceable songs, although mostly they're for pogoing to.

I think they lack the mainstream and older-generation appeal that OP is after. Like, I don't think my parents could name or sing an Arcade Fire song.

In general I'm getting an impression that posters here are a bit American and their tastes don't really cross over to this side of the pond, where for instance "country music" is pretty much just three or four songs.

Ideas that caught my eye so far. How danceable is Cheap Trick? Coldplay? Foo Fighters? Red Hot Chilli Peppers? Hootie? Earth Wind and Fire? Mumford? REM? The Cure? I know Abba is danceable because there is a play featuring dancing to their music. Understand that my dancing ability is a 1 on a 10 scale and I can't really tell.
Coldplay are "sad pop". If you're familiar with Radiohead, Coldplay are basically a more commercial, less artsy Radiohead. Some of their songs are danceable, like "Paradise", but I can't imagine someone dancing to "Fix You" or "Clocks" or "The Scientist".

Foo Fighters are moshable, but not really danceable. They do have a couple of songs I can imagine someone dancing to, like "Best of You", which is often performed slightly slower than the wax version to emphasise its emotional content.

RHCP have really funky basslines. Their music is quite sexually charged.

I think Hootie and the Blowfish are these days a bit of a joke and don't fit for the story. Even at their peak, the Simpsons were joking at their albums were "cheaper than blank tape". I'm not sure whether the poster who suggested them is a genuine fan or was suggesting them as a joke - if it's the former then my apologies to them.

Earth Wind and Fire are a disco band, very danceable.

Mumford's first album (which made them famous) was as danceable as folk gets, listen to the end of "The Cave". Their later stuff isn't quite so, and I don't think they're as big as they were, but they were big enough at their peak that people will recognise their biggest songs.

REM are a very varied band, but they were broken up in 2020 (they reunited for one performance in 2024, their first show since 2009, when they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame).

The Cure are goth-rockers, but have some really upbeat danceable hits, most famously "Friday I'm In Love". They're quite versatile but generally melancholic.

I do not know Cheap Trick.

So, let's look at festival headliners in 2019.
Glastonbury was headlined by Stormzy (too young), Miley Cyrus (likewise), Liam Gallagher of Oasis, and Kylie Minogue in the "legend" slot. Gallagher or Minogue would probably fit.

British Summer Time (which is generally more focused on a small number of stars with cross-generational appeal) was headlined by Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, The Black Eyed Peas, Lionel Richie, Robbie Williams, Keane, and Florence and the Machine. I don't think the Black Eyed Peas work, and I'm not sure how big Williams, Keane, or Florence are in the US. Stevie Wonder might be perfect?

Coachella in the US was headlined by Ariana Grande (too young), Billie Eilish (too young), and Kanye West (too racist).

You could always try Paul McCartney? He basically plays Beatles songs with a few solo ones sprinkled in. Lots of fairly danceable stuff in there, "Hey Jude" is obviously the ultimate "slow sway" song.

For some reason I cannot find a band that suits.

Closing scene of a chapter... Couple are at an outdoor concert in a park. Just a happy scene last night of a big national holiday festival weekend say around ten at night. She is dancing, perhaps swaying or a tad more happily is a better term. Big smiles on both their faces as life is just freaking awesome. They went through hell, paid a huge price to get where they were and it is working out insanely well. She looks at him and he looks at her with big smiles and contented happiness and... fade the scene out for that chapter.

The band has to be very well known.
Most of their music has to be at least moderately danceable, but not pure dance music. Something catchy enough to just put her in the moment.
Happy Music. Maybe even suggest a song to me.
the crowd is all ages of adults from young adults up to the mid or even late 50s so nothing super trendy right now. The 50 year olds have to be at least somewhat familiar and not just ones who follow the current music charts. Please don't say Taylor Swift.
A group both US and UK people would recognize. Probably add Aussies and Kiwis if possible if known to the US and UK audiences.

I have ideas for some of the above conditions but can't think of anything that fits very well on all of it. The generational thing is a big block for me.
Spoon. Catchy, dancey, sexy, and fun.
