newbie question...are the bruises normal?

first off, i apologize if this is such a newbie question you all roll you eyes. i just don't know who else to ask and half the information available on the web is questionable.

i went to a scene party on friday night and since it was basically public it was all lighthearted fun. i have never done anything like this before so did not know what to expect. one of my fiends is into tying people up with rope in Japanese bondage and that looked intriguing so i volunteered.

once i was tied up he proceeded to flog me with one of those red lambskin floggers. well within my pain limits and no skin broken, everything seemed fine and we had a good time. however, today my back and haunches are covered with bruises that look like i was hit with buckshot. it could simply be my thin red-head skin isn't used to this sort of thing.

my question is, how is this perceived in s&m land? should i consider the bruises like a badge of honor? or is it the sign of a bad flogger? improper selection of equipment? wimpy sub? hysterical reaction on my part? i'd like to do this all again, but i don't know if the ease of which i bruise is going to be a problem.

don't know if i can post a picture here, here's a link.

Welcome to the board.

If you're going to engage in flogging, with anything more substantial than ribbons, you will experience bruising. For those who practice S/M, the bruises are par for the course. It is up to you to whether you consider the bruises a badge of honor. As for wimpy, then anyone who has ever been flogged and bruised is wimpy.

There is no wistful smilie. There should be! I miss marks sooooo much! With my first Master, (a novice,) he had this desire to create a genuinely square bruise, to which end, he beat my backside with just about everything he could find. *LOL* Closest I ever got was a nice mark my current Master left on my ass with the tongue of a crop. (All of this has led me to a fascination with the concept of bruising as a form of body-modification...)

I used to mark beautifully, but the body builds a resistance it seems. Ten years of flogging, cropping, caning, etc, have left me virtually unmarkable by anything short of a knife or fire. (And those are considerably more permanent!) I tried taking an asprin a day to thin the blood a bit, but no dice. All that did was muck with my ulcers.

Aside from refraining from activity for a very long time, maybe someone could pm me with advice on how to get those spiffy marks back?

If you want/need them to fade faster; Arnica cream. If you want to prevent or lessen them Arnica tablets. You can get both at a health food store. The cream is for after but the tablets can be taken a few days before playtime if you know when playtime is going to be and it will lessen or prevent marking. I'm a readhead too and play has been stopped way before i thought it needed to be because of red marks or bruises which usually go away quickly anyway.
