newby looking for feedback

Snort Obviously since you can't change the font type in a story submission it's a moot point isn't it. You can cite your style guide all you want, but if the writer has no option to use the Roman Font, what point is there to it?

The guidance Jenny gave was that song titles are in italics. The correction I made was that song titles are in roman (which is the other choice from italics) and inside double quotes.

(And, oh by the way, the writer can render italics in their submissions also--not that that has anything to do with the discussion before you posted.)

We can go on all day with you all voluntarily alternating stepping on your feet and putting them in your mouth, if we like.

I'm not bumping this thread up, you are--and your postings are quite amusing.

(Perhaps we can go on from here on Jenny's discussion that the story was mostly in 3rd person POV--when, in fact, it was mostly in 1st person. As she has done in giving feedback before, she messed up tense with POV.)

Again, still waiting for someone to indicate as much concern for cabin_fever (or any feedback requester) that bum advice was given--and anyone daring to correct the advice and/or suggest people need to check that out for themselves is made the focus of the attack--as for the "face" of a posting chum.

[Not to mention a simple google on "Harvard Style" gives you plenty and it turns out, Jenny is correct on that use of Italics for a title.

Oh, I just noticed this. I did find a "Harvard Style" on the Internet (as I said in an earlier posting) and it doesn't say anything about how to render song titles. What I found on line was this:

http://www.usq.edu.au/library/help/ehelp/ref_guides/harvardonline.htmhttp://www.usq.edu.au/library/help/ehelp/ref_guides/harvardonline.htm

If you can find reference to a song title in here, please point it out. As I said in earlier discussion, larger musical work titles are in italics (e.g., titles of DC albums). Specific song titles, as the multiple cites I have given, however, are in roman inside double quotes.

If you have found anything from a Harvard Style Book that says song titles are in italics, please cite it where we can see/find it (as I repeatedly have done). I asked Jenny to do so, and she didn't.

What I rather think is that you simply don't know that not all titles are treated alike (by any style authority). You (and Jenny) certainly don't seem to know that different style authorities are used for different modes of writing.

As far as I can tell the authority recognized by this site is Strunk and White (at least it recommends using that). That's fine, but S&W doesn't answer this question at all (or many others, for that matter). But every source I can find says song titles are in roman and inside double quotes--so unless you can come up with some creditable sources that say otherwise . . . (and most certainly the one Jenny claims she was using--when I rather think she wasn't consulting anything at all.)

First off thanks again for the feedback.
Unfortunately this thread had rather quickly become a argument, which is rather not helpful to anyone.
There seems to be a question as to who gave better help and feedback. That is simple to answer: the several who e-mailed me their feedback and didn't post for not wanting to get involved in an argument.

I apologise. You're very right.

Yo, Dudes...

Look, I may be a noob of sorts, but really, take the personal stuff offline. OK, thank you, we all know that you all don't like each other. But how is that helping Cabin-fever? This "debate" has made me uncomfortable reading it, how do you think Cabin feels?

As to proper style, nowadays, it seems that anything goes. Italics, underline, quotations, whatever-- as long as basic grammatical rules are obeyed and spell-check is utilized, is it that huge a deal? I can't remember where I heard this, but someone once said, "Read Strunk and White-- and then fuck with everything you read."

Yo, Dude. How does posting two days after everyone else has stopped make you noble? :p

Yeah. And Roman font is just ugly on a PC screen. Talk about no style!

Roman here is a type of font, not a style of font. There are two types of font: roman and italic. There is no style of font named "Roman." You're probably referring to Times New Roman or Times Roman. Two different things.

At least try to have some inkling what you're talking about when you snipe. Being a sniper is one thing. Being a dumb sniper is just pathetic.
