I tried center once because I use ***** to denote a shift in the story (I don;t like using "Chapter 2" within a one shot story

And when I previewed the story everything was all screwed up, looked like half my paragraphs had been chopped to center the entire story(even though I did "end it" properly with the </c>

So now I just settle for the ***** being off to the left. Its not worth the headache.

Can't claim credit for this, Dark is the guru;

Try <blockquote>, </blockquote>. It sort of middles a piece of text - useful for your issue and also for kind of press quotes and such. I don't think Lit uses <c>.

It may have changed, but I remember the center HTML command is <center></center>.

Bolding "everywhere on the site" is just one of Elfin's crazy irrelevancies. The issue is bolding in the story file.

Regarding the use of bolding in stories, I've just checked the ten most-recent stories posted to the story file (27 Lit. pages) and found six uses of bolding (in two out of ten stories). Three of those cases were for internal heads and three of them were just incorrect (emphasis is rendered by italics, not bold). So, bolding is hardly "everywhere" in the story file.

Beyond that, what would Elfin know about filing a story to Literotica in this decade? She hasn't submitted anything to the story file for SEVEN YEARS. Why is she even pretending to know anything about submitting to Literotica currently?

He is a brazen liar. Contrary to his lies, I just pointed out that bold and underline were OK on the site. I have never used either

Bold and underline works in stories, even sr has issued a garbled mea culpa - Mon padre, he is forgiven for he knows not what he does. What I write, and what I write under Alts, is no concern of the maggot who is offensive in the extreme.

He huffs and puffs but a lot is just hot air from a damp squib.

"I'm honestly not sure about <u> ... and I'm not in the mood to look it up right now."

This implies there is a place to look it up. Where would one look it up? If it is HTML, it is HTML, but does Literotica.com use only a subset listed somewhere?

I'm not sure where you could look it up; I just searched the FAQ and didn't find it. From personal experience in both reading and writing, I can tell you that Lit will take the following HTML tags:

italics: <i></i>
bold: <b></b>
underline: <u></u>
blockquote: <blockquote></blockquote>

I thought the center tags were also accepted -- <center></center> -- but I'm not sure and haven't used them myself.

You might be able to do a list, or a simple table, I'm not sure. However, the simpler the formatting, the better off you are.

But . . . but . . . Elfin (who hasn't submitted anything for seven years) says Lit. doesn't accept these.

What a dilemma; who to believe.

I suppose I could write a story, or re-upload an old one and put an underline in it just to see what happens. Or, of course, we could ask Laurel. :)

I have used bold, blockquote and italic tags in my own stories, so I know those are accepted.

FWIW, here is a how-to from Michchick98 that outlines -- and shows the use of -- bold, italic and underline HTML codes. It's from 2008, though, so things might have changed.

The point being, of course, that, as usual, Elfin doesn't have the foggiest notion about submissions--which is natural, since she hasn't done any for seven years. And why anyone would give the time of day to anyone advising on submissions who hasn't done it for seven years certainly escapes me.

This is what I meant by "look it up". I knew the how-to section had example documents.

Nope, it's not in the FAQ. The FAQ is so outdated that you can almost hear Indiana Jones saying, "This belongs in a museum."

There's some formatting that is lost when pasted into the text box. I use it to differentiate internal dialogue. If lost, it might be a little confusing.

What kind of formatting? Most people, myself included, have used italics to indicate internal dialogue. For that, just include the italics tags around the text as described above. Then you'll get your italics if you paste your story text into the submissions box.

Or you could use single quotes. Some people do this, and although it bugs me on a visual level for some reason, as long as you're consistent, it should work with readers.

To give an update, my story was approved and posted. It looks like it was a file format issue after all. I'll try HTML tags with my next story to see if that speeds up the approval process. Thanks to all who stepped in and offered advice. I appreciate it.
