[NFL] football?

really? that should be a most interesting game, phaedre! :>

I hope so. It'll be my first 'proper' NFL game (have seen NFL Europe games waaaay back) but I have to decide which team to support as neither are 'my' team.

phaedre: well, both have compelling stories. i'm not a fan of the patriots but they're a very, very impressive team that i fear is gonna beat up on tampa bay.

My companion will be cheering for the Bucs. Perhaps I should cheer on the Pats just to be contrary?

well, the risk in supporting the other team relative to one's companion is the risk that only one of you can be happy afterwards...

i suggest using that most time-tested of decision processes: flipping a coin. :>

well, i'm all excited that my giants won yesterday, although it woulda been nice if the offensive domination was reflected on the scoreboard. let's just say that the new red zone network is unlikely to be cutting to a giants game ever...

damn...the giants had 2 100 yard receivers in last night's game. i'm wondering if that's ever happened before in giants history.

edit: bah, it appears to have happened last in 2006, and the receivers then were toomer and burress. but it was against the eagles, which surprises me.

Where the hell was the Pats Offense??
They made the Jets look good......

But at least Pete Carroll (USC) was frowning...that made me smile :D :D :D

i saw that game, find me, and that really didn't look like the pats offense that we've all come to expect. i think that's a testament more to rex ryan's d and the blitz packages however than an indictment of the pats: it didn't seem to me that brady had many opportunities to step up into his throws.

Silver, I totaly agree.
Hats of to the Jet's D and Rex Ryan.
Brady needs to fire strait and true this week...It will be a shoot-out.
I know that the Hood-meister will get our D fixed...he always does.

my two cents on the giants:

why the big deal about receivers? yes plaxico (that idiot), was a major part of the passing offense, but he was more of a decoy that drew attention than an actual viable downfield threat something i thought that hixon did extremely well other than his few dropped passes. which should improve with time. all the other receivers are solid. i think the problem was more the suddenness of plaxico's departure and eli manning's failure to compensate by finding another hot read when feeling the pressure.

if i remember correctly, another team just won a super bowl(or two), without a true no. 1 receiver and won instead with the frenetic pass-rush generated by the front seven and steady, efficient, quarterback play.
you know, i missed this post earlier.

a lot of people look at eli manning and say, "OK, he's worth a $100 million contract the year before the salary cap goes away. if he's that kinda talent, then the stats should reflect that somewhere, right?"

that, coupled with the fact that in most people's minds, giants football = smashmouth, with the attendant bruising and dominant ground game, means that people don't perceive the giants as a team with a good passing attack.

the truth of course is that they're a much more balanced attack than people are inclined to think. brandon jacobs is a fairly popular fantasy league player, but i doubt many people have a single giants WR on their teams. there's no star wideout on that team.

yet. :>

find me: oo, you guys have ATL? yeah, that should be a really interesting game!

the Bears won last night *big cheesy grin*
Willing & Unsure: Yes - Go Bears.....
I was Cutler-basher but now that he's in the NFC.....and with my favorite NFC team....i hope he has a banner year.

Pats vs Atlanta....Home comming for thier QB (Ryan) who played at BC....I hope he chokes!

wow, hell of a game by the jets d against this year's greatest show on turf! and who knew denver would actually be good this year?
