No, The LAFD Budget Was NOT Cut Before The Recent Wildfire Disaster.

Trump issues executive order to increase logging and deforestation in bid to tackle wildfires

With a partial government shutdown looming, President Donald Trumpquietly issued an executive order that expands logging on public land on the grounds that it will curb deadly wildfires.

The declaration, issued the Friday before Christmas, reflects Mr Trump's interest in forest management since a spate of wildfires ravaged California last year. While many scientists and western governors have urged federal officials to adopt a suite of policies to tackle the problem, including cuts in greenhouse gases linked to climate change, the president has focused on expanding timber sales.

The executive order instructs the secretaries of agriculture and interior to consider harvesting a total of 4.4 billion board feet of timber from forest land managed by their agencies on millions of acres, and put it up for sale. The order would translate into a 31 per cent increase in forest service logging since 2017.

Practical solutions to California’s energy and water shortages will always have a better chance of being implemented if they adhere to the limitations placed upon them by the climate lobby. Thankfully there are numerous solutions, strategic in their impact, that would fulfill this criteria. Sadly, however, most of them remain controversial.

Examples of climate compliant yet controversial solutions include nuclear power, natural gas power generation with underground sequestration of the emissions, offstream reservoirs, and desalination. Another example, the subject for this week, is forest thinning.

On September 23, 2020, after another round of devastating super-fires immolated another 4.1 million acres of California’s forests, Governor Newsom announced via executive order a ban on sales of cars with internal combustion engines to take effect by 2035. Whether or not you believe automotive emissions constitute a mortal threat to the planet or not, Newsom’s edict did nothing to alleviate superfires.

The primary reason for out of control wildfires is because California’s state legislature has funded fire suppression at the same time as it has regulated timber harvesting nearly out of existence. We have become very, very good at squelching wildfires before they get started. We’ve also reduced our annual timber harvest in California from 6 billion board feet per year as recently as the 1990s to around 1.5 billion board feet in recent years. As a result, California’s forests are estimated to have tree densities that are many times what is known to be historically normal.

In past millennia, fires caused by lightning strikes routinely burned off undergrowth and a high percentage of small trees, leaving the larger trees to survive these fires. Today, trees and undergrowth are so crowded that everything is stressed. Light, soil nutrients, and water are now being shared by anywhere between 2 and 6 times (or more) as many trees and plants as these ecosystems were naturally evolved to support. Observations of excessive tree density are corroborated by numerous studies, testimony, and journalistic investigations.

Nobody has claimed FEMA is out of money. Disaster victims in North Carolina have received the same relief that disaster victims have always received. I repeat that the government doesn’t rebuild people’s homes or businesses after a natural disaster.

Why do you bother making up such bullshit? 😆 Your pretend world is extremely bizarre.
Actually, the eldery felon has been complaining nonstop that President Joe Biden has left him with "no FEMA money" since January 9th. Unexpectedly large amounts of hurricane damage in North Carolina depleted the FEMA emergency fund prior to the end of the fiscal year, but Congress did what it was supposed to do and replenished the fund last month.

The elderly felon is unwilling or unable to let go of a good talking point, however, so Chloe dutifully regurgitates his falsehoods like any good cult member would do.

I haven't been posting on LAFD funding. These wildfires are not a consequence of current LAFD funding or funding cuts.. Bass also cannot be held totally responsible for the culmination of decades of mismanagement at the local, state and federal levels. Each forest fire causes more damage than one year of tailpipe emissions. Black carbon is killing healthy forest.

Here's an interesting take from 2021;

These barren, brown hills an hour northwest of Sacramento will be the futurehome of Sites Reservoir, one of the few major water projects to be built inCalifornia since the 1970s. California taxpayers are helping pay for Sites, whichwould hold more water than Folsom Lake, through a $7.1 billion bond theyapproved during the 2014 election. With the state facing a potentially catastrophic drought, leaders of the Sites ProjectAuthority say the reservoir would dramatically improve California’s watersupplies.“If Sites were open today, we’d have nearly 1 million acre feet of water for farms, the environment, cities,” said the authority’s executive director Jerry Brown (norelation to the former governor). But here’s the thing: Sites isn’t ready to open today, tomorrow or anytime soon.Mired in red tape and struggling with rising costs, even after the project wasdownsized, the reservoir isn’t scheduled to begin construction until 2024 andwouldn’t begin filling until 2030.

YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKING LYING BULLSHITTER!!! STFU why don't you.
My my, the truth sure hurts MAGAts.
Out of control spending does not solve problems, just the opposite, it creates more problems.
No one ever called for "out of control spending". That's just what people like you call any kind of safety net funding at all.
Spending what you don't have sooner or later will come back to bite you in the ass.
Even overlooking the fact that big business finance with debt all the time and if they can't pay it back, we've got "too big to fail", a comment like this coming from a Republican is just plain absurd. It is your side of the aisle that has repeatedly run up enormous deficits, always with the claim that your tax cuts for the rich will somehow pay everything off. Never mind what happened the last time and the time before that, Charlie Brown, just kick the football again, please?
Fiscal responsibility should be every parties responsibility.
Indeed. But it should not be an excuse for fiscal austerity, which is what you are really advocating for here.
Social spending is way out of control, has nothing too do with cutting public revenues to the bone, it means spending taxpayer monies on what taxpayers need, shrimp on a treadmill ain't one of them. Politicians need a course on how to balance a check book.
I don't know what Fox News told you about "shrimp on a treadmill", but I'd say disaster relief is "what taxpayers need" right now.
Cutting public revenues to the bone is a stupid statement. Public revenues haven't been cut to the bone, just the opposite, revenues have never been higher. What hasn't happen is eliminating redundant programs, cheering on huge omnibus bills that hide billions of dollars in wasteful spending.
Tell it to our teachers, just for starters. There are kids out there using textbooks that their parents used a generation ago, not to mention art and music programs are history at a lot of schools. And there's plenty more where that came from.

Congress has been spending like drunken sailors for years funding shit with no apparent means of accountability, following constitutional norms, forwarding a balanced budget, allowing congress to function within regular order where proposed spending allocations are transparent for all to see, are debated on the floor of congress and holding people accountable for mismanagement.
And you've been one of the biggest cheerleaders I know for the party that's primarily responsible for that.

My opinion, you can't hold Bass completely responsible for this disaster. This is a culmination of stupidity, arrogance, mismanagement and lack of following the science that existed for decades. Climate change is a two edge sword. What's creating it for one and immediate remedial actions to adjust with current changes in weather patterns, changes like forest management, bringing water to where it's needed, asset management, accurate spending priorities all the while addressing long term remedies which is a global effort. Understanding that we as a nation can't solve it by ourselves, we can only participate in a joint venture to help with research, innovations and practical applications of what we learned, developed and are able to deploy while continuing to strive for better future remedies. We cannot offset the irresponsible actions of other countries we can only try to mitigate what's going on in our country, we have too much going on at home. There are some that believe we can control climate change, pretty much the same idiots who can't keep the buses running on time.
That is no excuse for not even trying, especially if you're also going to enable the guilty party to go right on polluting (and that is exactly what our businesses do when they farm out their labor to China).

👍

And the LAFD budget STILL was NOT cut right before the wildfire disaster.

The LAFD budget was INCREASED by 7% AND the LAPD budget was INCREASED by a similar amount.

Elon Musk has descended to Alex Jones’ level of bullshit.

Alex Jones, the man behind Infowars and a prolific spreader of lies, has gone even further, posting erroneously that Joe Biden had grounded firefighting plans and that the fires were being spread “by design” as part of a “globalist plot to wage economic warfare”. Musk responded in a now-deleted tweet with a simple one-word: “True”.

From the LA Times:

“When Mayor Karen Bass unveiled her budget plan for 2024-25, she called for a 2.7% reduction in spending at the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Her proposal, unveiled in April, sought $23 million in cuts to the department, with much of it focused on reduced equipment purchases.

But while her citywide spending proposal was being reviewed, Bass was also in closed-door negotiations over a major boost in pay for the city’s 3,300 firefighters. Those pay hikes — four years of raises and an array of other financial incentives — were not finalized until several months after her budget went into effect.

The City Council approved the firefighter raises in November, adding more than $53 million in additional salary costs. By then, the council had also signed off on $58 million for new firetrucks and other department purchases.

Once those two line items were added, the fire department’s operating budget actually grew by more than 7% compared to the prior fiscal year, according to the city’s financial analysts.”

NOT ONE MORE WORD ABOUT HOW CLIMATE CHANGE DID IT: Newsom Slashed $100M in Fire Prevention Funds Ahead of Deadly Wildfires.

Rump is putting out executive orders?!

How can a private citizen felon hand out executive orders ???

I especially liked the part where PG (Politics Girl) highlighted that the fire fighting budget in California has INCREASED by FIFFTY PERCENT in the last five years, mostly under Gavin Newsom’s leadership, and that significant amounts of ADDITIONAL equipment and resources HAVE been made available to fight these types of fires.

👍

Unfortunately, MULTIPLE climate change fueled super fires IN WINTER (the “rainy season” with UNPRECEDENTED hurricane force winds that grounded aerial fire suppression capabilities overwhelmed even the ADDITIONAL resources that DEMOCRATIC lawmakers fought for over the OBJECTIONS of REPUBLICAN lawmakers.

👎

Of course, focusing on the thread topic, PG did also highlight / acknowledge that the budget for the LAFD ACTUALLY WAS INCREASED BY $50 MILLION back in November, BEFORE the wildfires started.

👍

Right wing scumbags have LIED about everything related to these UNPRECEDENTED wildfires and the heroic efforts of DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS and LEADERS to fund firefighters / firefighting over the OBJECTIONS of REPUBLICANS.

SHAME!!!
