Not just looking for an editor...

Thanks everyone

I found someone to start to edit and advise me on my stories posted on Lit

But if any one else wants to read them and make a constructive comment as they stand at the moment, that's fine by me .

Here is my page http://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=575911&page=submissions

When the editing process is over, I'm considering using www.lulu.com for the self publishing process, has anyone used this site for self publishing purposes?

I either PMed you or sent a private comment on the stories. to be honest I do not remember.

Never use any publisher who wants money from you. My publisher pays me, not the other way round. All self-publishing companies make their money from the authors' payments to them; they do not really care if the books sell or not. Genuine publishers make their money only by selling books; therefore they make the effort to sell them.

Admittedly getting a book accepted for publication is not always easy (J.K.Rowling had the first Harry Potter book rejected many times before finding a publisher), but it is infinitely preferable to paying out good money for very little more than a competent printer would offer.

At least one author has written a novel first posted on Lit, then on an e-book site, and then adopted for paper publication, so it can be done.

What Snoopy said.

Right now it's better to simply send your materials to regular publishers and see if they will publish you, the ebooks are just starting to get off the ground once those are up and running it probably will be pretty simple to get a publisher since with ebooks there is no warehouse space, they simply have to air commercials and wait for people to buy them.

Problem being the well known authors with ebooks is small and the overall number of people with access to ebooks is not very large either. Unless you count cell phones of course, not that I'd rely on cell phone users to buy an ebook. There are a number of places to get an ebook handheld device, amazon sells one, i'm sure other places do as well, once there are lots of authors doing ebooks those will sell and the whole ebook thingy will skyrocket, much like napster and guitar hero.

Some feedback would be good

Now I've finished my e-book I'd appreciate someone reading it through - not necessarily proofread or edit but just give me your opinion. I've saved it in doc form also so it's emailable, so if you message me with your email addy I will send it to you

thanks

Lucy

Latest Update

I got a reply - finally - from the Editor of Australian Penthouse for a short erotic story I had submitted earlier in the year for their consideration and lo and behold it was accepted and I will be paid - which is just the gravy really. Getting my first fictional piece accepted is "the bomb".

So all the Aussies on Lit have my permission to buy the Feb edition and look me up
in the Diversions section :p

Personally I dislike the lack of quotation marks on thoughts as shown in MistressLynn's example. Italics are used by some writers and I find that clearer. I use double quotes for speech and single quotes for thoughts as in:-

"Would you edit it for me?" asked the author.
'No chance,' he thought, but aloud he said, "That may be possible."

Incidentally you say when a character is thinking to themselves; to whom else could a character be thinking (except in Sci-Fi)?

Somewhere along the line I recall being told that single quotes are only used within double quotes, and I've been editing this way (changing single 'thought' quotes to "double" quotes). On the other hand, I've also gone the route of ML. Most of all, I suggest my writers keep to a standard, as I've seen stories where thoughts were handled differently throughout. Italics work quite nicely as well, to set them off from the rest of the narration.

All in all, I'm pretty open to various techniques, as long as they are used throughout so as not to confuse the reader. Just my thoughts.

Huggs ML!
