I found the glitch. Update your profile to include your city. Once you do that it seems to work!

I also cleared out my cache before I tried it again. That gave me a message that I needed to update before Fetlife would work for me.

What it wants to do is check your entire email account for stored email addresses that they might recognize.
You don't have to do it though.
