My second ever girlfriend woke it in me.
She had a strict dad. The kind of dad who liked for her not to go visit boys alone, and there was no chance in hell the old "Sleeping over at a friend's" would ever be accepted by him. But he was also big on hunting and fishing, and he had absolutely no problem at all with her going hiking and camping on the weekends all solo. Probably was a logic in it to him somewhere.
My interest in outdoorsy stuff was slightly more than middling. I mean, I was a boyscout, but I wasn't out there all that much. But after me and her started dating (as awkwardly as her home-life would allow for), I suddenly gained a lot more interest in hiking and camping.
And since she grew up in a strict home, she was of course the girl who taught me what happens when "proper" girls get away from prying eyes and gets to blow off steam. And boyfriends.
