Palo Alto CA: neutral bathrooms in elementary school???

One of the most important things to be aware of with physical changes like GN bathrooms, is that it requires a social shift as well.

Often, the initial introduction reveals issues previously masked by separation. Is the only answer to the bullying to split the bathrooms? Or is there an education and social shift that can be learned?

If there are enough single use gender neutral bathrooms to accommodate all the students who prefer to use them, that's fine. The article stated there were 8 of them. I don't know what the enrollment of this school is like, but it's entirely possible that's not enough.
i rarely got what I preferred as a kid. Accommodating every kid's preference is a stupid goal in regards to bathrooms. I'd prefer to focus our resources on the things that help them learn. How they take a shit is not a ppriority.

This isn't a locker room or a changing room. It literally is for piss and shit. If you are uncomfortable doing so around the opposite or same gender, you have other issues that need to be resolved with your parents, outside of school

I disagree. It relates to a preference, but not a mere preference. Most of us regard urination, defecation, and personal sanitation as private acts. And how we feel about performing them is influenced by our feelings of safety and privacy. We're talking about kids entering puberty, and are figuring out how to interact with the opposite sex and others, and how to feel about themselves. They absolutely deserve a space to figure that out for themselves, in a space of their choosing.

If you need to be alone to take a shit, then you're already not doing so at school. This new setup doesn't change that.

Shitting and pissing is something everyone does. If you have issues with it, regardless of age, you probably should seek help beyond school. Providing single use bathrooms, as mentioned, is adequate. There is no actual way that any school planning commission can predict the number of people that get scared of bathrooms.

As I said.....as a kid we grow up to learn the ways of the world....if you can't handle a public bathroom space...I doubt you'll be leaving your house much....kid or adult. Coddling this behavior isn't helpful

Single use bathrooms already exist in schools. Gendered bathrooms already exist in schools.
Shitting and pissing is something everyone does.
They are. We also learn to close the bathroom door while doing them. Kids don't need someone who isn't their parent telling them what they ought and ought not to feel comfortable doing.

Insane take. Coddling children's anxiety only makes them more anxious. Understand them and teach them how to overcome them else you'll raise a person who hides in their house for their entire lives.

You said, "If you need to be alone to take a shit, then you're already not doing so at school." I'm pointing out why this is wrong.

^ That's the insane take. There's a difference between coddling, and forcing kids into situations where they might be unsafe or disinclined to perform basic sanitary tasks. There's a difference between coddling, and forcing kids into a situation that might run contrary to everything they've learned at home, that pertains to a private activity.

Aah....so you're saying that every school has single use bathrooms?

Nope. The majority don't

If your kid is that anxious about taking a shit.
..home school them.

There is no amount of planning that can accommodate every anxiety of every kid at school. But hey...you go fight that fight. đź‘Ť Anxiety.of public spaces exists. Sorry about that.

No one is suggesting that 👍🏼
By saying "how do we know if there are enough single use bathrooms?" does suggest that, imo. Offering options of single use bathrooms should be sufficient to those who may have an extreme aversion to public bathrooms in general.

You’re shining like the true fake contrarian you aspire to be.

Your argument fails to take into consideration cultural and religious preferences.
Single use bathrooms being available are sufficient. If more is needed, go to a private.cultural or religious school. Taking a shit or a piss is not a religious or cultural thing to consider, imo.

Your argument isn't that....you just don't like gender neutral shit.

It's not his fault you didn't comprehend his words.

So if she asks if you could spare a square... should you be a gentleman and go over and wipe her little cooch off. Axing for my grandson.

Most parents would disagree with your premise. School yards are gender neutral, cafeterias are gender neutral, classrooms are gender neutral, bathrooms that are not single occupancy are not gender neutral and should not be considered gender neutral. Social engineering can only go so far before the common sense folks trash it outright. There are limits that should be respected.

It's a bathroom. You're taking a shit or a piss. If who is sitting next to you bothers.you, go home and use the toilet in your own home đź‘Ť

This ridiculous social paradigm shift supported by many on the looney left is only going to benefit school choice advocates. Another nail in public education’s coffin.
