As someone who used to string electric fence in his youth, I can say with authority that you most certainly CAN be zapped in rubber-soled footwear! What you don't realize is that an electric fence is not on all the time. It puts out a high-voltage, high-frequency pulse once very 1.5 to 2 seconds. In fact, the units take in enough energy via solar panel to do their job 24 hrs/day at full power. (It does have a backup battery - a 9v or 12v) The units have a transformer in them that ramps up the voltage to the 3000-7000 volt range, depending on the length of wire hooked up to it and the kind of livestock being controlled.

I once watched my brother piss on a lower portion of barbed wire fence that had electric fence (a single wire about chest high) running along it. Must have been some brush nearby helping create a close circuit, because insulators or not, that charge was managing to travel in the regular barbed wire too and all of a sudden my brother was hopping around holding his crotch screaming bloody murder! No actual harm done, of course... and it was funny as hell.

So. If you're interested in trying this out, forget metal grates & all that - its overkill. You just need earth, maybe concrete.

Wouldn't a tens unit or a wand do this as well? Wonder if DVS knows?

That might be great fun to sit there and have someone begin the flow and then pass the wand back and forth through the stream. Heck if that would work, a blindfold, a spreadrbar and a nice flick of the wrist would be a great bit of fun.....grinz.

I grew up in a place were that advice had real meaning.

As I was driving across town today my mind (perverted thing that it is) started to meander and I found myself trying to work out the theory behind how one gets a shock from peeing on an electrical fence. The circuit would be completed at ground only if you were barefoot or in leather sole boots/shoes - rubber sole shoes would not allow the circuit to complete therefore no fried pecker. Right?

Of course the next step in my mind (perverted thing that it is) was to attempt to design a method of making it work as a zap zap toy concept.

See with me, if you will, a naked sub standing on a metal mesh sheet that has a positive charge and being directed to pee into a metal bowl that has a negative charge. The whole circuit has no more then, oh say, 4 volts (do not connect this to a household 115 v circuit – real danger and harm alert).

If one was not “pee shy” before being told “empty your bladder” that might all change on a flash.
