What other books would you recommend?
Have you tried looking at greenerypress.com ??

Pesonally, I would suggest Wiseman's book : Erotic Bondage Handbook ; the Illustrated Story of O ($50.. eek) ; and maybe Bound to be Free. These should get them started. Oh, and a gift certificate to Home Depot. :D

Thank you for your recommendations!

I am interested in this book.

Owner's Manual: A Comprehensive Handbook and Personal Workbook for the Bdsm Community and D/S Relationships

Although I could find mention of it, I couldn't find anywhere to actually buy it. If anyone can help me actually get a copy somewhere I'd appreciate it.

A Boy ~ by Bob Harris

A boy died tonight. You won't find anything about it in the local papers...

Was re-visiting this thread and saw your contribution. I knew boy bob and his owner, Master Doug Harris. I was a semi-regular at The Sanctuary of a Dark Angel, their home and dungeon, in Atlanta. boy bob passed away almost 3 years ago now (March of 2003), and I still miss him.

My first real-time exposure to the BDSM scene was at The Sanctuary, I was welcomed into the lobby, given the tour of the facility... here was a very out gay Leatherman and his boy, and instead of getting my ingrained, Southern heritage, knee-jerk homophobic reaction, I felt like I had come home. I met the family that I had been looking for all my life. I found someplace where I was accepted for who and what I was, no judgement, no condemnation, no expectations beyond being asked to keep an open mind and open heart.

It's good to see that others still find something special in his writings, still want to share what he had shared. A candle, a brilliant, warm, welcoming candle that helped others find their way from the darkness to the light is gone. But his spark touched other candles, and those touched still more. A little bit of bob's flame is still out there, still spreading the light.

Thank you for sharing, thank you for caring.

Excuse me for a bit while I wipe some tears from my eyes.

This one has me swinging, hon.... I can't find it anywhere. None of the book sites I frequent, none of the BDSM/Leather publishers I know about... nada.

If you do find it, please let me know. I'm allatime looking for good reference material about the lifestyle.

It's listed under BDSM at the Barnes and Noble web site but it's not available. Not even in the rare and used section. Google didn't help either. The books sounds really good too. *pouts*

It must be Out Of Print. A Search by title-

Not on abebooks.com
Not on alibris.com
Not on addall.com
Not on Fetchbook.com
Not on eBay.com
Not on biblio.com
Not on Choosebooks.com
Not on Amazon.com

You *might* get a hit on any of the above if you search by author or ISBN, but not likely. You can probably list it as a want on most of the above sites, but if a dealer does have it, be prepared to *pay* since it is uncommon.

My library:

When Someone You Love is Kinky
Consensual Sadomasochism
The Sexually Dominant Woman
The New Topping Book
The Loving Dominant
Exibitionism for The Shy
The New Bottoming Book
Radical Ecstacy
Female Dominance: Rituals and Practices
Different Loving

Thank you!

Do you like all the books your library?

I like the idea of a "workbook," you know?

To date I have the following:

Different Loving
The Loving Dominant
Screw The Roses I Want The Thorns

Tonight I ordered:

When Someone You Love is Kinky
Sensuous Magic

Fury :rose:

The full title of the Sexually Dominant Woman is actually 'The Sexually dominant Woman: A Workbook for Nervous Beginners'. *laughing* I don't really know if a book being a "workbook" is all that important to me. I benifit just as much form a book saying "you might try X sometime and see what happens" as a book saying "first you do X, then Y, the result will be Z".

At the time I purchased Different Loving I thought it was an awesome book. It has a lot of personal accounts/why such and such is a turn on for someone. IMO it gives a detailed but glossed over encyclopedia style summary of most kinks. I read the foot fetish secion over and over trying to get inside the head of what makes a foot fetishist click and still didn't quite understand; I read Female Dominance Rituals and Practices [section regarding fetishes] once and went "Oh THAT makes perfect sense! How fun!" Of course some of that is also that I'm in a very very different place now than I was 2 years ago.

When Someone You Love is Kinky was good just to get a grasp of how to discuss such things. I keep my private life very private, so the odds of needing to discuss it is slim to none, but it was helpful to remember what it was like before I felt ok being me if that makes sense.

So far I enjoyed Consensual Sadomasochism and Female Domination Rituals and Practices the most. Close second was The Loving Dominant- but I finished that one and felt like I had the worst imagination on earth. *laughing*

I *always* pick up anything authored by Dossie Easton and Janet W. Hardy/Catherine A. Liszt/Lady Green. (Janet/Catherine/Lady Green are all the same person if you didn't know)

Once I feel more confidant with my Domme personality, I'll probably go back to reading some books focusing on the submissive side of things. I think my "want" list is about 15 titles strong at the moment...

Curious,

Thank you for the great post chucked full of information!

To me the word workbook implies it has suggestions for things you will try and you will learn, then take notes on.

I have work I want to do in this area. Not just as an individual but also as a couple. I am looking for both specific ideas and general ones that will allow us to grow in kink.

I am looking for THAT book, you know? That one that speaks to me.

I'm finding some good things in the books I have but for the book I want, well, as Rebecca said, I may have to write it.

Fury :rose:

I'm not sure THAT book exists. I'd suggest continued reading and journals. Make your own workbook, as Rebecca suggested. I try to take notes in my books (in pencil... still a bad habit) of what speaks to me/how I'd do such and such technique/etc. Having a notebook of such ideas and thoughts and my emotional place when discoving them is a good tool for my personal growth and growth within a relationship.

If you are both reading and learning and working towards intimacy through BDSM then both keep journals to share with the other. Your workbook will write itself. :)

Well, no he is not reading but I believe he is learning and working with me.

He won't keep a journal most likely but I could ask him and see what he says. I need to start though!

That's a great idea.

Thanks,

if you still haven't picked up the topping book and bottoming book, i thought i'd point out that they're on sale for $10 each on amazon.com right now, with free shipping. ^^ i decided to finally add them to my library just because of the decent prices... however, i don't find that the bottoming book is exactly at my level atm. does that sound like it makes any sense? i'm halfway through and it hasn't volunteered any new information yet.

I read some great stuff last night in Screw the Roses . . .

There was even a diagram of what body parts to hit and which ones to leave alone.

"I" dont recommend ANY books.

my life is not in-a-book.

this "lifestyle" is about what's in your heart.........nothing more, nothing less.
those "books" are merely someone's opnion..
make your OWN book and follow your heart.
to hell with what anyone else thinks.

While I respect your personal POV, my heart tells me to read and research. My heart cares what some others think. So in my way, which is clearly quite different from yours, I follow my heart and it leads me to read such books.

Fury :rose:

I tried Borders and Barnes & Noble for the Owners manual, Bottoming book, Topping book, and a few others. All were either out of print or special order only. :(

Right!
Let's burn ALL the books in the entire world and stop wasting time, trying to 'educate' each other. Let's also stop discussing anything and sharing any kind of experience. Let's root out all sources of inspiration. What's the point if all the right answers are in each individuals own heart?
Could you please enlighten me as to why you bother hanging around here? So far I have seen you doing nothing but persistently telling us all how your way is the only way, and how ridiculous we all are, in our blissful naivety.

Online search sites-

www.abebooks.com

www.addall.com

www.alibris.com

www.amazon.com

www.biblio.com

www.choosebooks.com

www.ebay.com (catagory- books)

www.fetchbook.com (searches multiple sites for the least expensive copy by title, author or ISBN#)

If you can't find something at one site, go to another site. Alibris partners with B&N; Amazon partnered with ABE until about 2 months ago. Choosebooks is also known as ZVAB.com (ZVAB sales tend to be more European). Fetchbook and Addall will both give you a rundown of about 10 sites (if the book is listed that many places).

As I suggested to Fury- you can also make a "want" list at most of the above sites; the boookstores who have the title in stock/listed in their database will be notified of your interest/you will be notified the book exists. If you are friendly with your local B&M store (particularly smaller used bookstores) they may be willing to do a search and order the title for you; you may need to pay 20% for the service. Even the big box shops *ought* to be able to order a book or help you find it. The more information you have, the better. author/title/publisher/ISBN (which will only consistantly appear on books published after 1975 or so).

:rose:

A large assortment of non-fiction BDSM/Kink/leather books are published by three publishing houses:

http://www.daedaluspublishing.com

http://www.greenerypress.com

http://www.mysticrose.com/

They also have an assortment of fiction/erotica.

Personally, I recommend buying direct from the publisher because ALL of your purchase price goes where it belongs, to the author and publisher, NONE of it goes to a middleman. In the case of Mystic Rose and Greenery Press, they are essentially one-woman publishing companies, Janet Hardy at Greenery and Molly Devon at Mystic Rose.

Happy hunting!

Greenery Press

Just finished "The Ethical Slut: A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities" by Dossie Easton, Janet W. Hardy and Catherine A. Liszt from Greenery Press. And basically it was life changing! The communication between my lover and I admittedly, was already very good, however this book took us to an unimagined level within the first few chapters.

I found it and several titles mentioned in this post at my favorite adult toy store Blowfish.Com in the books section. A search for "Greenery Press" turned up some really cool titles I didn't know existed.

I've ordered from this site several times, even my first electrostim toy, and have had no problems at all.

Also this past weekend I picked up "Radical Ecstasy" by Dossie Easton & Janet W. Hardy at my local Borders (in Sacramento CA) its fairly new, I haven't seen it on Blowfish yet.
