Thanks callie and 29words - it seems it was only seasonal allergies but with so many asymptomatic cases one can get paranoid. And to quote "Even paranoids have real enemies."

September 20, 2020

The sun is bright in the clear morning sky
but brings little warmth as the solstice
is tomorrow and the photoperiod
decreases with each day.

A light frost yesterday and the eggplants
are not looking good but the tomatoes
seem okay and we will have chard,
kale and carrots well into autumn,
although the fall spinach never
set in and I must remember
to get a bushel of Romas
from the Farmer’s
Market to freeze
for the winter.

While in the city, the second wave
of the plague is rising and we
fear for our children but
they are younger and
God willing, we will
all be together for
Thanksgiving.

All Hallows Eve in the year of the plague

As Halloween approaches
I wonder if any bold spirits
will venture out to maintain
a long forgotten pagan rite
and if they’ll don a Darth Vader
mask or wear a more sensible
and hygienic tight fitting
mouth and nose covering?

Regardless, there will be a light
in my crudely carved pumpkin
and I’ll wear my mask and
gloves to dole out sweet
nothings to any intrepid
souls who venture
to my door.
