The Show Must Go On
- Queen, lyrics by Brian May

Empty spaces - what are we living for
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score
On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for...

Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
Hold the line, does anybody want to take it anymore

The show must go on,
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on.

Whatever happens, I’ll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?

I guess I’m learning, I must be warmer now
I’ll soon be turning, round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I’m aching to be free

The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly, my friends

The show must go on
The show must go on
I’ll face it with a grin
I’m never giving in
On with the show

I’ll top the bill, I’ll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
On with the -
On with the show -
The show must go on...

yea....that one too. wonderful.:rose:

George Thorogood

A little background.
When I lived outside Philly, some friends of mine had a band called the Sugartown Blues Band.
They had a steady gig at a bar in Newtown Square <pa. called the Dew Drop Inn.
When the decided to disband, the bar auditioned new groups to take their place.
One band was George Thorogood and His Delaware Destroyers, who at their audition night, with the assistance of their Wilmington fans descended on the bar and lived up to their name, completely blowing everyone away, as well as trashing the joint.

They were hired. And the rest, as they say, is myth.

Bad to the Bone

words: George Thorogood

On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round
And they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up, and she said leave this one alone
She could tell right away, that I was bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

I broke a thousand hearts, before I met you
I'll break a thousand more baby, before I am through
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I'm here to tell ya honey, that I'm bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

I make a rich woman beg, I'll make a good woman steal
I'll make an old woman blush, and make a young woman squeal
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I'm here to tell ya honey, that I'm bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad

Do you know how close that is to where I lived? Purty darn close, buddy. And I knew many of the local musicians--a group of us kinda came up together. I bet we know some of the same people. Maybe we've even met, lol. It could have happened. Ever go to clubs in Philly or Jon and Peter's in New Hope?

Hit the Road to Dreamland
Jane Monheit

Bye bye baby
Time to hit the road to dreamland
You're mine baby
Dig you in the land of nod

Hold tight baby
We'll be swinging up in dreamland
All night baby
Where the little cherubs trot

Well look at that knocked out moon
You been a-blowing his top in the blue
Never saw the likes of you before
(What an angel)

Bye bye baby
Time to hit the road to dreamland
Don't cry baby
It was divine but the rooster has finally crowed
Time to hit the road

Look at that knocked out moon
He been a-blowing his top in the blue
Never saw the likes of one like you
(What an angel)

So long baby
Time to hit the road to dreamland
Don't cry baby
It was divine but the cuckoo has finally crowed
Time to hit the road

Time to hit the road

Time to hit the road

This song is soooo me. The first time I heard it, I totally related. :D

Danny's All-Star Joint
Ricky Lee Jones

Downstairs at Danny's All-Star joint
They got a juke box that goes doyt-doyt
The vice is nice, they stay in the back all day
But when the nighttime comes, hey-hey

There's this cat down there that makes a bad kinda soup
I come around struttin' my luck in my shoop coupe
Cecil gives me coffee
And he won't never take my coin
I say, "I got thirty dollars in my pocket!
Whatchoo doin'?"

I holler, "Come on, Cecil, take a dollar!
Come on, Cecil, take a ten!
I've finally geared up into a whole buncha big ones
And you're actin' like I'm down-shiftin'"

He knows all the under-riders on the boulevard
They got to barefoot cruise when it's forty-weight hard
They look particularly deadbeat
Permanently pale
Cecil picks up his butcher knife
Waves it at the jail

The kid say, "I ain't got no dough, Joe, I just want some OJ"
I said, "Don't look at me" (Cuz he was lookin' my way)
Cecil wink upon him some juice and some green
And the kid walks over and puts the quarter in the pinball machine
And he says, "Come on, Cec, gimme a dollar
Come on Cecil gimme five
I'm in a halfway house on a one-way street
And I'm a quarter past left alive"

He can talk about your people in a wonderful way
He can talk about your people 'til your hair turns grey
Your sister's into mustard,
She loves to walk the pup
She like pickles and a relish,
She never gets enough
A Hershey milkshake
Steamin on a stick,
For a Carte Blanche Sandwich
Oh lettuce get thick

(It's not becuase I'm dirty,
It's not because I'm clean,
It's not because I kiss the boys behind a magazine
Hey Boys, how 'bout a fight?
Here comes Ricky with the girdle on tight
And if she dont know your name,
She knows what you got,
From your matzo balls
To the chicken in the pot
Chicken in the pot
Chicken in the pot)

Dooowwwnnn stairs at Danny's All-Star joint
They got a jukebox that goes doyt-doyt
A finger-snappin' deluxe
Make your be-bop bap
And your r and b hep-scat

You cant break the rules until you know how to play the game
But if you just wanna have a little fun
you can mention my name
Keep your feet in the street
Your toes in the lawn
But keep your business in your pocket
Thats where it belongs

Come on, Cecil, take a dollar
Come on, Cecil, take a tip
Do your self a favour
If she offers it, take it,
But honey, dont give it away if he dont appreciate it

:D

Thank you Ang

That song you posted by Rickie Lee prompted me to go out and buy her CD "The Magazine" today at a used cd place in Raleigh.

I am OVERJOYED! I listened to it for 4 hours on the way home.
I going to post 2 here, but I think you'd really enjoy the whole thing.

It Must Be Love

It must be love that whispers in my ear
It must be love that we keep trying to hear
Cuz I imagined this kind of wonderful choice
I imagine you hear the very same voice
When I speak to you
You say "That's just my imagination"
Oh no, no, no
It Must Be Love
It Must Be Love

Perhaps one girl who was moving in a fine line
Finds one boy in back
That she can always stand behind
And it's you and me
Cuz that's where we want to be
Oh, It Must Be Love,
It Must Be Love

People look through everything they see
Cuz there's so many other things to be
I have seen you walking in the rain
I wanted to know why you were crying
I wanna fix what's wrong...

It must be love the sailor sails for
Must be love that drives a bottle to the bottom of the ocean floor
Because I imagine all kinds of wonderful water
I would have you there wherever I'll go
Way from the seventh sea,
He brings the bottle back to me
Oh, It Must Be Love
Oh, It Must Be Love
People look through evervthing they see
There's so many other things to be
I have seen you walking in the rain
I want to know why you were crying
Baby, let me fix what's wrong...

It must be love that fathoms the moonlight
Must be love that shallows
The deepest part of the night
So you can show them with vour eye
The things that make them cry,
Because that Must Be Love
It Must Be Love...
And the way you are
Must Be Love
And the things vou Feel
Oh, It Must Be Love,
Oh, It Must Be Love
Must Be Love

Juke Box Fury

Polly and I went to the circus
Polly got hit with a rolling pin
We got even with the circus
We bought tickets but we didn't go in...

You won't like it here
When I first take you,
He's in the back doing his Father O'Riley for the cops.
But you'll like Woody
(He's hiding in the shed)
And we're going with him
I told my brother...
When the Police come
Don't say nothing
Don't say nothing
And the Police will go

Cuz they don't like it
When you beat them to the punch,
They don't like it
When you come in on a hunch.
And I've seen more dreams
Riding on his eyes,
Than a sure thing like
The Starry Skies,
And you'll like it when you find out what he's got
In the backyard,
By the parking lot.

Hey Baby, you're my favorite boy,
I think about you all the time.
And this garbage that you still employ,
Do they really pay for every line?

For the Juke Box Fury
Pounding in your soul,
Juke Box Fury tells them where to go,
Juke Box Fury pounding in your head,
Juke Box Fury every word we said when
We were younger
And they hurt us so,
But you never know...

You got a Juke Box.
You can make it even.

Look, I don't like it here.
This is trouble.
That guy keeps gettin'up.
That girl keeps goin'over to the phone
I'm going to talk to them
(You just watch me)
I'm going to tell them;
"I think you two look like you're ready to go.."
Put your foot right here.
D'you get it down all right, dear?
Well, put your foot right here...

Here, baby,
You're the one for me.
This must be Paradise.
She's never where you think she'll be,
But don't worry about it

Cuz the Juke Box Fury's
Pounding in your soul
Juke Box Fury knows where to go
Juke Box Fury pounding in your head
Juke Box Fury every word we said
When we were younger
And they hurt us so
But you never know...

You don't know what you've got,
You can make it even!
You got a Juke Box!
You can make it even...

Rod Stewart

Not his best song, but definitely hot Rod!

And his voice drips sexuality (IMHO). If I was a woman, I'd do him.

Delicious

(Rod Stewart/Andy Taylor/Robin Le Mesurier)

Everyday I get up
And drag myself out of bed
While you're still sleeping
On your tummy
With your long legs spread
Call me a copy cat
Dressed
Kiss you good-bye
I'm like a lion in winter
I don't want to say good-bye
I'm trying to pull
On my socks
You get me horny and hot, darling
That's why I'm late on the job

*You're delicious
You're delicious, babe
You're delicious

Just keep on doing
What you are doing
Doing
Doing to me
Ah, yeah

You're like a cold beer, darling
On a long-hot summer's day
Yes, you are
You're the words I'm planning
Five part Chekov play
You make a rich man poor
And make a blind man see again
You're ......
As hard as diesel train
And while I'm driving to work
You spill all over my shirt
You're just a wonderful flirt

(*Repeat)

"The Old man" line ain't gonna
Take you from my side

I've had the new caviar
Fort Wall and pink champagne
I've seen the Mona Lisa
Drank the wine in France and Spain
I've smelled the rose of Finland
Tulips of Amsterdam
I've heard the crew line coal train
The bells of Notre dame
But you know what honey
You fill me up
With desire
You've set my soul aflying
Lifted me down to the wire
(*Repeat)

Gimme one time
(*Repeat)
Please, bass guitar
(*Repeat)

Uh huh. As I said in the pm, she is way way cool isn't she? I have a (not secret) fantasy of being able to sing like that. Well, really to sing like Billie Holiday--but um no hard drugs. The reality is sadly removed from the dream though. (But I am thinking of buying a cool beret and cat's eye sunglasses.) :D

You've always got the shower Ang. We all sound good in the shower.

Hell, I can even sound like Ricky Lee in the shower!

( I know, you're thinking probably more like Tom Waits)

Well, it's my sower and my song.:p

The thought of you in the shower sounding like Ricky Lee is a mite odd, oui? Better you should sound like Tom Waits--who is, after all, an acquired taste which--like oysters or caviar--is quite wonderful if you can appreciate it.

Once when I was in college I was in my apartment, showering and singing Joni's All I Want really loud. It happens to be one of the few songs I can sing really well. When I came out of the bathroom, my roommates and a bunch of other people all started cheering and said, god your voice is gorgeous. Mercifully they did not ask for an encore. It was the acoustics of the tile and that song. Sorta like smoke and mirrors.

So you're saying I couldn't get an encore now? It's ok if you submit it as an audio posting.

I'm sure all the poets would agree with me.

Really, that's All I Want! How bout if I smile:D

No?:(

Much as I love you all, the singing Angeline poems will not be forthcoming. Nonono.

Busload of Faith
Lou Reed

You can't depend on your family
you can't depend on your friends
You can't depend on a beginning
you can't depend on an end

You can't depend on intelligence
ooohhh, you can't depend on God
You can only depend on one thing
you need a busload of faith to get by,

watch it, baby

Busload of faith to get by
busload of faith to get by
Busload of faith to get by
you need a busload of faith to get by

You can depend on the worst always happening
you can depend on a murderer's drive
You can bet that if he rapes somebody
there'll be no trouble having a child

You can bet that if she aborts it
pro-lifers will attack her with rage
You can depend on the worst always happening
you need a busload of faith to get by, yeah

Busload of faith to get by
busload of faith to get by
Busload of faith to get by, baby
busload of faith to get by

You can't depend on the goodly hearted
the goodly hearted made lamp-shades and soap
You can't depend on the Sacrament
no Father, no Holy Ghost

You can't depend on any churches
unless there's real estate you want to buy
You can't depend on a lot of things
you need a busload of faith to get by, woh

Busload of faith to get by
busload of faith to get by
Busload of faith to get by
busload of faith to get by

You can't depend on no miracle
you can't depend on the air
You can't depend on a wise man
you can't find 'em because they're not there

You can depend on cruelty
crudity of thought and sound
You can depend on the worst always happening
you need a busload of faith to get by, ha

Busload of faith to get by
busload of faith to get by
Busload of faith to get by
busload of faith to get by

Why

How many times do I have to try to tell you
That I'm sorry for the things I've done
But when I start to try to tell you
That's when you have to tell me
Hey...this kind of trouble's only just begun
I tell myself too many times
Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut
That's why it hurts so bad to hear the words
That keep on falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Falling from your mouth
Tell me...
Why
Why
I may be mad
I may be blind
I may be viciously unkind
But I can still read what you're thinking
And I've heard it said too many times
That you'd be better off
Besides...
Why can't you see this boat is sinking
(This boat is sinking this boat is sinking)
Let's go down to the water's edge
And we can cast away those doubts
Some things are better left unsaid
But they still turn me inside out
Turning inside out turning inside out
Tell me...
Why
Tell me...
Why
This is the book I never read
These are the words I never said
This is the path I'll never tread
These are the dreams I'll dream instead
This is the joy that's seldom spread
These are the tears...
The tears we shed
This is the fear
This is the dread
These are the contents of my head
And these are the years that we have spent
And this is what they represent
And this is how I feel
Do you know how I feel?
'Cause I don't think you know how I feel
I don't think you know what I feel
I don't think you know what I feel
You don't know what I feel

I Drink Alone

I drink alone, yeah,
with nobody else
I drink alone, yeah,
with nobody else
You know when I drink alone,
I prefer to be by myself

Every morning just before breakfast,
I don't want no coffee or tea
Just me and good buddy Wiser,
that's all I ever need
'Cause I drink alone, yeah,
with nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone,
I prefer to be by myself

The other night I laid sleeping,
and I woke from a terrible dream
So I caught up my pal Jack Daniel's,
and his partner Jimmy Beam
And we drank alone, yeah,
with nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone,
I prefer to be by myself

The other day I got invited to a party,
but I stayed home instead
Just me and my pal Johnny Walker,
and his brothers Black and Red
And we drank alone, yeah,
with nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone,
I prefer to be by myself

My whole family done give up on me,
and it makes me feel oh so bad
The only one who will hang out with me,
is my dear old granddad
And we drink alone, yeah,
with nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone,
I prefer to be by myself

The Obvious Child by Paul Simon

I'm accustomed to a smooth ride
Or maybe I'm a dog who's lost its bite
I don't expect to be treated like a fool no more
I don't expect to sleep through the night
Some people say a lie's a lie's a lie
But I say why
Why deny the obvious child?
Why deny the obvious child?

And in remembering a road sign
I am remembering a girl when I was young
And we said These songs are true
These days are ours
These tears are free
And hey
The cross is in the ballpark
The cross is in the ballpark

We had a lot of fun
We had a lot of money
We had a little son and we thought we'd call him Sonny
Sonny gets married and moves away
Sonny has a baby and bills to pay
Sonny gets sunnier
Day by day by day by day

I've been waking up at sunrise
I've been following the light across my room
I watch the night receive the room of my day
Some people say the sky is just the sky
But I say
Why deny the obvious child?
Why deny the obvious child?

Sonny sits by his window and thinks to himself
How it's strange that some rooms are like cages
Sonny's yearbook from high school
Is down from the shelf
And he idly thumbs through the pages
Some have died
Some have fled from themselves
Or struggled from here to get there
Sonny wanders beyond his interior walls
Runs his hand through his thinning brown hair

Well I'm accustomed to a smoother ride
Maybe I'm a dog that's lost his bite
I don't expect to be treated like a fool no more
I don't expect to sleep the night
Some people say a lie is just a lie
But I say the cross is in the ballpark
Why deny the obvious child?

I am never one to obsess about what an author meant but, "the cross is in the ballpark.." has always stuck in my head and never yielded any ideas as to what he might have been alluding to. I know it's an odd line to wonder about, but we won't get into explaining my mind now.;)

Anyone know or have any ideas. I'm just curious. Anyone else think that ee is secretly Paul Simon? Okay, no more questions from me...

The cross is in the ballpark
The cross is in the ballpark

We had a lot of fun
We had a lot of money
We had a little son and we thought we'd call him Sonny
Sonny gets married and moves away
Sonny has a baby and bills to pay
Sonny gets sunnier
Day by day by day by day

I've been waking up at sunrise
I've been following the light across my room
I watch the night receive the room of my day
Some people say the sky is just the sky
But I say
Why deny the obvious child?
Why deny the obvious child?

Sonny sits by his window and thinks to himself
How it's strange that some rooms are like cages
Sonny's yearbook from high school
Is down from the shelf
And he idly thumbs through the pages
Some have died
Some have fled from themselves
Or struggled from here to get there
Sonny wanders beyond his interior walls
Runs his hand through his thinning brown hair

Well I'm accustomed to a smoother ride
Maybe I'm a dog that's lost his bite
I don't expect to be treated like a fool no more
I don't expect to sleep the night
Some people say a lie is just a lie
But I say the cross is in the ballpark
Why deny the obvious child?

I am never one to obsess about what an author meant but, "the cross is in the ballpark.." has always stuck in my head and never yielded any ideas as to what he might have been alluding to. I know it's an odd line to wonder about, but we won't get into explaining my mind now.;)

Anyone know or have any ideas. I'm just curious. Anyone else think that ee is secretly Paul Simon? Okay, no more questions from me...

I think he's secretly Tom Waits.

You should try to "out" him Ange...;)

At dinner, tomorrow say, "Hey Tom, can you please pass the salt." If he drops it, he's Tom and if he throws it at you...well, he's not.:D

I said I thought he was Paul because whenever I read ee's poems, I think wow, funky (for want of a better word) images and I can always imagine them blending with music. It would actually be better if he added the music though, instead of me. ;)

Yes, I agree. I read his poetry and hear music and feel strong impressions of place. Very visual and artful and earthy at once. :)

and it *is* even better when you get the musical accompaniment--there's guitar equivalent to a lot of that poetry, and it sounds just like you think it would, warm and full and somehow spare.

Love Resurrection

Alison Moyet

What can I do to make light of this dull dull
day
What switch can I pull to illuminate the way
Show me one direction
I will not question again
For a warm injection
Is all I need to calm the pain

We all need a love resurrection
Just a little divine intervention
We all need a love resurrection
Just a little divine intervention

What seed must I sow to replenish this barren
land
Teach me to harvest I want you to grow in my
hand
Lets be optimistic, lets say that we won't toil in
vain
If we pull together we'll never fall apart again

We all need a love resurrection
Just a little divine intervention
We all need a love resurrection
Just a little divine intervention

Show me one direction
I will not question again
For a warm injection
Is all I need to calm the pain

We all need a love resurrection.......

Put the Law on You

Natalie Merchant

Do I have to put the law on you baby for all the wicked things you do?
Am I gonna have to put the law on you baby?
That was not what I wanted to do.

Do I have to put the law on you baby to try
And make you come out clean for every evil deed?
You're just about the lowest and the dirtiest thing I've ever seen.

Did you really think you could pull it off, the perfect crime, crime of the heart?
Do you really think that you'll get away, do the crime and never pay?

Do I have to put the law on you baby
Lock you up and throw away the key
For the countless counts of low down double-cross you've been about?
Have you no decency?

Did you really think you could pull it off, the perfect crime, crime of the heart?
Do you really think that you'll get away, escape my justice until you're dying day?

Though you made it clear from the very start
There was no trusting you with my foolish heart.
Though you maybe made it clear that didn't make it right.
Do you really think you'll get away?
You can't escape my justice 'til my dying day.

Listenin now

and it's such a gorgeous song...

Oh Sister
Bob Dylan

Oh, sister, when I come to lie in your arms
You should not treat me like a stranger.
Our Father would not like the way that you act
And you must realize the danger.

Oh, sister, am I not a brother to you
And one deserving of affection?
And is our purpose not the same on this earth,
To love and follow his direction?

We grew up together
From the cradle to the grave
We died and were reborn
And then mysteriously saved.

Oh, sister, when I come to knock on your door,
Don't turn away, you'll create sorrow.
Time is an ocean but it ends at the shore
You may not see me tomorrow.
