DAMIEN RICE LYRICS

"I Remember"

I remember it well
The first time that I saw
Your head around the door
'Cause mine stopped working

I remember it well
There was wet in your hair
I was stood in the stairs
And time stopped moving

I want you here tonight
I want you here
'Cause I can't believe what I found
I want you here tonight
I want you here
Nothing is taking me down, down, down...

I remember it well
Taxied out of a storm
To watch you perform
And my ships were sailing

I remember it well
I was stood in your line
And your mouth, your mouth, your mouth...

I want you here tonight
I want you here
'Cause I can't believe what I found
I want you here tonight
I want you here
Nothing is taking me down, down, down...

Except you my love. Except you my love...

Come all ye lost
Dive into moss
I hope that my sanity covers the cost
To remove the stain of my love
Paper maché

Come all ye reborn
Blow off my horn
I'm driving real hard
This is love, this is porn
God will forgive me
But I, I whip myself with scorn, scorn

I wanna hear what you have to say about me
Hear if you're gonna live without me
I wanna hear what you want
I remember december
And I wanna hear what you have to say about me
Hear if you're gonna live without me
I wanna hear what you want
What the hell do you want?

For Ange Angel...

Jersey Girl

Tom Waits

Got no time for the corner boys,
down in the street makin' all that noise,
don't want no whores on eighth avenue,
cause tonight I'm gonna be with you.

'cause tonight I'm gonna take that ride,
across the river to the jersey side,
take my baby to the carnival,
and I'll take you on all the rides,
sing sha la la la la la sha la la la.

Down the shore everything's alright,
you're with your baby on a saturday night,
don't you know that all my dreams come true,
when I'm walkin' down the street with you,
sing sha la la la la la sha la la la.

You know she thrills me with all her charms,
when i'm wrapped up in my baby's arms,
my little angel gives me everything,
I know someday that she'll wear my ring.

So don't bother me cause I got no time,
I'm on my way to see that girl of mine,
nothin' else matters in this whole wide world,
when you're in love with a jersey girl,
sing sha la la la la la la.

And I call your name, i can't sleep at night,
sha la la la la la la.

Live Like You Were Dyin'
Tim McGraw

He said I was in my early 40's,
With a lot of life before me,
And a moment came that stopped me on a dime.
I spent most of the next days, lookin' at the x-rays,
Talkin' 'bout the options and talkin' 'bout sweet time.
Asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end.
How's it hit ya, when you get that kind of news.
Man what ya do.
And he says,

I went Sky divin',
I went rocky mountain climbin',
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fu Manchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin'.
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin'.

He said I was finally the husband,
That most the time I wasn't.
And I became a friend a friend would like to have.
And all the sudden goin' fishing,

Wasn't such an imposition.
And I went three times that year I lost my dad.
Well I finally read the good book,
And I took a good long hard look at what I'd do
If I could do it all again.
And then.

I went Sky divin',
I went rocky mountain climbin',
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fu Manchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin'.
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin'.

Like tomorrow was a gift and you've got eternity
To think about what you do with it,
What could you do with it, what can
I do with with it, what would I do with it.

Sky divin',
I went rocky mountain climbin',
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fu Manchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin'.
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin'.

Sky divin',
I went rocky mountain climbin',
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fu Manchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin'.
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin'.

To live like you were dyin'.
To live like you were dyin'.
To live like you were dyin'.
To live like you were dyin'.

Title: If Tomorrow Never Comes

Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and
Watch her sleeping
She's lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights
And lay there in the dark
And the thought
Crosses my mind
If I never wake up
In the morning
Would she ever doubt
The way I feel
About her in my heart
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know
How much I loved her
Did I try in every way
To show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time
On earth were through
And she must face
The world without me
Is the love
I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes

'Cause I've lost
Lved ones in my life
Who never knew
How much I loved them

Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for
Them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how
Much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there's no second
Chance to tell her
How I feel

If tomorrow never comes
Will she know
How much I loved her
Did I try in every way
To show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time on
Earth were through
And she must face
The world without me
Is the love
I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes

So tell that someone
That you love
Just what you're thinking of
If tomorrow never comes

Title: What I Need To Do

(bill luther/tom damphier)

I keep tellin myself this is the right thing to do
I was wastin her time, waitin on dreams that just weren't comin true
And this old highway seems to understand
Leadin me on to somewhere that no one knows my name
I got the window rolled down, i got the radio up
I'm doin all that i can to get my mind off us

What i need to do is turn this car around
Drive as fast as i can til i see the lights of our hometown
And run to her, take her in my arms
Make her see how sorry i am, well that shouldn't be so hard
But i drive on, and on, and on

Eighty-seven more miles gets me into baton rogue
There's a buddy of mine who says he might find some work that i can do

Or maybe head up north to knoxville, tennessee
I know my baby sister, has got a couch where i can sleep
Now the sun's goin down on my broken heart
Lord, i gotta get bak before i go too far

What i need to do is turn this car around
Drive as fast as i can til i see the lights of our hometown
And run to her, take her in my arms
Make her see how sorry i am, well that shouldn't be so hard
But i drive on, and on, and on

But i drive on
Yes i drive on, and on, and on

Knowin what i need to do
Girl, i'm comin home to you

Knowin what i need to do
Girl i'm comin home to you
I'm comin home to you
Knowin what i need to do....

A Classic

REM LYRICS

"Everybody Hurts"

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.
Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along.
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on.

Everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand.
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on.

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes.
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on. (repeat & fade)
(Everybody hurts. You are not alone.)

here's another one: naked as we came

She says "wake up, it's no use pretending"
I'll keep still and breathe in her
Birds are leaving over autumn's ending
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open, naked as we came
One will spread our ashes 'round the yard

She says "if I leave before you, darling
Don't you waste me in the ground"
I lay smiling like our sleeping children
One of us will die inside these arms
Eyes wide open, naked as we came
One will spread our ashes round the yard

"Blood Makes Noise"

Suzanna Vega

I'd like to help you doctor
Yes I really really would
But the din in my head
It's too much and it's no good
I'm standing in a windy tunnel
Shouting through the roar
And I'd like to give the information
You're asking for

But blood makes noise
It's a ringing in my ear
Blood makes noise
And I can't really hear you
In the thickening of fear

I think that you might want to know
The details and the facts
But there's something in my blood
Denies the memory of the acts
So just forget it Doc.
I think it's really
Cool that you're concerned
But we'll have to try again
After the silence has returned

Cause blood makes noise
It's a ringing in my ear
Blood makes noise
And I can't really hear you
In the thickening of fear

Blood makes noise...

Iggy Pop

Iggy Pop---Lust For Life

Here comes Johnny Yen again
With liquor and drugs
And a fast machine
He's gonna do another strip tease.

Hey man, where'd ya get that lotion?
I've been hurting since I'm up again
With something called love
Yeah, something called love.
Well, that's like hypnotizing chickens.

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in the ear before.
I have a lust for life
'Cause I've a lust for life.

I'm worth a million in prizes
With my torture film
Drive a GTO
Wear a uniform
On a government loan.

I'm worth a million in prizes
Yeah, I'm through with sleeping on the sidewalk
No more beating my brains
No more beating my brains
With liquor and drugs
With liquor and drugs.

Well, I'm just a modern guy
Of course, I've had it in my ear before
Well, I've a lust for life (lust for life)
'Cause I've a lust for life (lust for life, oooo)
I've got a lust for life (oooo)
Got a lust for life (oooo)
Oh, a lust for life (oooo)
Oh, a lust for life (oooo)

'Cause I've a lust for life.

Well, here comes Johnny Yen again
With liquor and drugs
And a fast machine
I know he's gonna do another strip tease.

Hey man, where'd ya get that lotion?
Your skin starts itching once you buy the game
With something called love
Love, love, love
Well, that's like hypnotizing chickens.

Well, I'm just a modern guy

Got a lust for life
Yeah a lust for life
I got a lust for life
Lust for life
Lust for life
Lust for life
Lust for life
Lust for life.

Iggy gives me flashbacks too
I saw him at the Paradise in Boston
he is 5'1, and his body is covered with scars from rolling around in broken glass...and other things i'm sure

with in 5 minutes he had his pants down
as Ray Manzarek of the Doors said
" If I had a cock like Iggy, I'd walk around naked all the time too"

:D

THE DOORS lyrics -

"I Can't See Your Face In My Mind"

I can't see your face in my mind
I can't see your face in my mind
Carnival dogs
Consume the lines
Can't see your face in my mind

Don't you cry
Baby, please don't cry
And don't look at me
With your eyes

I can't seem to find the right lie
I can't seem to find the right lie
Insanity's horse
Adorns the sky
Can't seem to find the right lie

Carnival dogs
Consume the lines
Can't see your face in my mind

Don't you cry
Baby, please don't cry
I won't need your picture
Until we say goodbye

Morrison Poetry

A vast radiant beach & a cool
jewelled moon. Couples naked
race down by its quiet side &
we laugh like soft mad children,
smug in the wooly cotton brains
of infancy.

The music & voices are all around us.

Choose, They croon
The ancient ones
The time has come again
Choose now, They croon
Beneath the moon
Beside an ancient lake

Enter again the sweet forest
Enter the hot dream, come w/us.
Everything is broken up

Under the moon
Beneath the stars

I want us to be there
Beside the lake
Beneath the moon
Cool & swollen
dripping its hot

LUTHER VANDROSS LYRICS

"You Stopped Loving Me"

You know
I've had a lot of things happen to me in my life
And yet

I don't spend much of my time
Feelin' sad
I don't let anything turn my sunshine to rain
I never have

Well, people have told me I'm not worth the time of day
Said I was over the hill
And it's been said that I always get in the way
But nothin' seemed to hurt me till

You stopped lovin'
You stopped lovin' me
Why'd you do that
You stopped lovin'
You stopped lovin' me
Lovin' me
And I don't want to do
Don't know what I'm gonna do, my love

(You stopped)
(You stopped)
(You stopped)
I just can't get it together since

(You stopped)
(You stopped)
(You stopped)
Oh

Out of your love, my love came
You made me strong
Well, it's just a shame, I don't know who or what to blame
Now that you're gone

I walk down the avenue right where I first met you
That nothin' else could do, yeah, yeah
Not a place I go through that I don't run into
Somethin' to remind me that

You stopped lovin'
You stopped lovin' me
Why'd you do that
You stopped lovin', oh
You stopped lovin' me
Lovin' me
And I don't want to do
Don't know what I'm gonna do, my love

(You stopped)
(You stopped)
(You stopped)
I just can't get it together since

(You stopped)
(You stopped)
(You stopped)
No, I just can't get it together since

(You stopped)
(You stopped)
(You stopped)
I just can't get it together since, no

(You stopped)
(You stopped)
(You stopped)
Ooh...oh...ho...

You stopped lovin', whoa, whoa
You stopped lovin' me, whoa, whoa, whoa
You stopped lovin', whoa, whoa
You stopped lovin' me, whoa, whoa, whoa

(You stopped lovin') I wonder why, wonder why, baby
(You stopped lovin' me) Why'd you do it, why'd you do that
(You stopped lovin') I wonder why, wonder why, baby
(You stopped lovin' me) Why'd you do it, girl, girl, yeah

(You stopped lovin') Why'd you do that, girl
(You stopped lovin' me) I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know
(You stopped lovin') Why'd you do that, baby
(You stopped lovin' me) You stopped, you stopped, you stopped

(You stopped lovin') You don't no more, you surely stopped, girl
(You stopped lovin' me) Oh...oh...yes, you did
(You stopped lovin') If you don't anymore, you've surely stopped, girl
(You stopped lovin' me)

(You stopped lovin') I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know
(You stopped lovin' me) Why'd you do that, why'd you do that, baby
(You stopped lovin')
(You stopped lovin' me)

(You stopped lovin')
(You stopped lovin' me)

with the Los Lobos cd This Time. The guitar on this song is totally yummy. It sounds like the way eagleyez plays. :D

Turn Around
(David Hidalgo/Louie Pérez)

Not 'bout winning or losing
Or being confident

Not for smiling even crying
Or 'bout sentiment

Not 'bout richer or poorer
Or being affluent

Not 'bout sharp or even clever
Or intelligent
Intelligent

Don't really matter at all
When a house of cards gonna fall
Before you try again
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around

Never 'bout being wrong
Or ever right

Never a winner or loser
Or acting outta sight
Outta sight

Don't really matter at all
When a house of cards gonna fall
Before you try again
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around

Whether coming or going
Never know what to do

Never look for a reason
When you break the rules

Before you try again
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around
Before you try again
Turn around

Acoustic guitar is one of the most beautiful sounds. I am sad sometimes to hear more synth music than what I consider hands on roots. (not that I can't appreciate it, or don't) But, it's like scribbling a poem by hand, or typing it on the computer. Where is the intimacy with the words - cadence - rhythm or beat?

Perhaps a discussion :D

I saw Segovia in NYC when I was in college. He was around 80 at the time and I was shocked to see he was so small with the tiniest little hands--and yet the muscia. Calinda! ;)

He took all that cold baroque music, transcribed it for classical guitar, and warmed it up like caramel. That was his true genius, I think.

Do you know Jay Farrar? Ever listen to Son Volt? If not, I bet you'd love him/them.

<runs from thread before Tath sees post and remembers I didn't burn him the cd yet>

I am a 20th and 21st century whore, I don't deny it. I grew up with some really cool music from my parents. My dad continues/d on the cool rock line, by mom married a younger man who listened to anything a 5 - 18 year old never wanted to hear ... particularly classical. I. Am. A 20th and 21st century whore! In every cultural way - which means I usually stick to avant-garde, abtract, pop, structuralist, modern. post modern, art nouveau, early jazz, blues, but nothing really 'instrumental'. Perhaps you can introduce me to Jay Farrar and Son Volt? :) Since you have good taste in music. :D

My dad loved classical and opera. That is what I grew up listening to--until my sister and I began watching American Bandstand, which ended his reign on the stereo. He would say it was all downhill from there, lol, but his music came back to me as an adult. ;)

You can discover Jay Farrar here. I had never heard of him and eagleyez told me to get the cd Terroir Blues. That was a few years ago--almost. The more I heard, the more I loved it. It is alternative country music, um alt cunt it's called, :D --very American Roots influenced, but his lyrics are brilliantly poetic.
